Principal Okta Engineer

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Engineer - Okta Workflows & OIG to provide technical leadership on a large, multi-year identity transformation program in the health sector.

You will help move the customer from fragmented processes, inconsistent identity data and manual intervention to automated, governed and auditable provisioning and deprovisioning using Okta Workflows and Okta Identity Governance (OIG).

This is a hands-on principal-level role. You will set technical direction and lead delivery, while remaining close to the implementation through discovery, design, workflow development, configuration, integration, testing, troubleshooting, cutover and transition to operations.

What you’ll do

• Lead the program’s technical outcomes: Own current-state assessment, target-state design, implementation, migration and operational handover; guide engineers, resolve technical challenges and coordinate dependencies across identity, security, HR, application, infrastructure and service management teams.
• Engineer Okta Workflows: Architect, build, test, operate and optimise reliable joiner, mover and leaver automation, including integrations, approvals, exception handling, reconciliation, observability, secure API patterns and production support.
• Deliver Okta Identity Governance: Design practical and auditable access requests, approvals, entitlements, access catalogues, certifications, reviews and lifecycle controls, including phased coexistence and migration from legacy IGA or manual processes.
• Remediate identity data and provisioning: Define authoritative sources, improve data quality and attribute mastering, and replace manual provisioning with governed integrations using SCIM, REST APIs, directories, HR, ITSM, SaaS and custom applications.
• Protect health-sector operations: Apply privacy, least privilege, separation of duties, auditability and controlled change principles; design for resilience, recoverability and safe fallback where identity failures could affect critical users or services.
• Establish sustainable delivery and stakeholder practices: Set standards for design, testing, release, monitoring, documentation and support; lead workshops and technical assurance, advise customer stakeholders, and grow Versent’s capability through mentoring and reusable assets.

What you’ll bring

Mandatory experienc e

• Extensive, recent and hands-on experience designing, building, testing, troubleshooting and operating Okta Workflows in complex enterprise environments.
• Extensive experience delivering Okta Identity Governance (OIG) or comparable IGA solutions, including access requests, approvals, entitlements, access catalogues, certifications, reviews, lifecycle governance and audit controls.
• Proven success replacing fragmented or manual provisioning with automated, governed and supportable solutions, with strong knowledge of identity lifecycle management, JML processes, data quality, attribute mastering, least privilege and deprovisioning.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate Okta with HR platforms, Active Directory or Microsoft Entra ID, ITSM tools, SaaS and custom applications using REST APIs, SCIM, JSON, webhooks or equivalent technologies.
• Strong engineering and operational capability across validation, error handling, reconciliation, retries, observability, auditability, secure secrets management, testing, migration and production support.
• Proven principal-level leadership across complex programs, with the communication, consulting and mentoring skills to influence stakeholders, guide delivery teams and remain hands-on.

Desirable experience

• Experience delivering identity and access solutions in healthcare or another highly regulated environment, with an understanding of diverse workforces, clinical and corporate applications, contractors, third parties and high-availability services.
• Experience with complex identity transformations, including legacy IGA coexistence, application rationalisation, role and entitlement modelling, and phased migration or cutover programs.
• Experience integrating Workday or other HR systems, ServiceNow or other ITSM platforms, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, LDAP, databases and enterprise SaaS applications; familiarity with Okta Workforce Identity capabilities is valued.
• Experience with Terraform, configuration-as-code, CI/CD or other DevOps practices, adjacent platforms such as SailPoint, CyberArk or Auth0, and technical assurance across privacy, security, compliance and audit requirements.
