About this Role
We are seeking a Generative AI Backend Software Engineer to join our Infrastructure Engineering team in Romania. You will design and build modern, scalable back-end applications and services using Python and Django, developing RESTful APIs and data-access layers within a microservices architecture.
A key part of the role is integrating Generative AI and Large Language Model (LLM) capabilities into back-end services, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, agentic workflows and AI agent tooling through APIs and MCP servers.
Alongside hands-on engineering, you will provide technical consultancy to clients, advise on suitable AI use cases and engineering best practices, and help stakeholders make informed technical decisions.
What you will do
- Design, develop and maintain high-quality, well-tested back-end services and RESTful APIs using Python and Django.
- Build and maintain scalable microservices and integrations with databases, search and logging infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain AI-enabled software capabilities, including integrations with LLM providers.
- Build and integrate RAG pipelines that connect back-end applications, data sources and LLM-based functionality.
- Develop agentic workflows and expose or consume tools for AI agents through APIs and MCP servers.
- Apply responsible AI and security practices to LLM-based functionality, including PII controls and safeguards against data leakage and prompt injection.
- Collaborate with front-end developers to define and integrate API contracts.
- Work with product managers and other stakeholders to deliver project objectives and features on schedule.
- Contribute throughout the engineering lifecycle, including planning, solution design, development, testing, deployment and maintenance.
- Review peer code for quality, performance and adherence to agreed coding standards.
- Debug and troubleshoot technical issues and implement appropriate solutions.
- Improve back-end performance through caching, query optimisation and efficient data-access techniques.
- Follow and promote established engineering practices, including version control, code reviews and continuous integration.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, operating procedures and solution or architecture designs to support effective knowledge sharing.
- Prepare and deliver knowledge-transfer sessions and contribute actively to the onboarding of new colleagues.
- Provide technical support, mentoring and guidance to colleagues across different levels of experience.
- Contribute to relevant team, departmental and organisational initiatives, including technical investigations, analysis, process documentation and knowledge transfer.
Who you are
- You have 5+ years of back-end development experience, with a strong focus on Python and Django.
- You have strong practical proficiency in Python and the Django framework.
- You have experience integrating LLM provider APIs, such as OpenAI, Anthropic or Azure OpenAI.
- You have experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
- You have experience working with relational databases and SQL.
- You have a strong understanding of microservices architecture and integration patterns.
- You understand prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector databases, agentic patterns and LLM output evaluation.
- You understand Agile/Scrum ways of working and are comfortable contributing within collaborative, fast-paced environments.
- You bring effective problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- You can communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- You continuously develop your technical knowledge and skills.
Nice to have:
- Understanding of containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with message brokers and asynchronous or background processing.
- Familiarity with observability practices, including logging, metrics and tracing.
- Experience with testing frameworks.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Microsoft Azure.
