About this Role
We are seeking an AWS Application Operations Engineer with hands-on experience in supporting AWS-hosted microservices, REST APIs and Amazon EKS/Kubernetes environments. This role is focused on ensuring service availability, operational resilience and SLA/KPI compliance through proactive monitoring, incident management, troubleshooting and continual service improvement. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business-critical applications, drive automation initiatives and contribute to observability and AI-enabled operational enhancements.
What you will do
- Provide L2 operational support and technical ownership for AWS-hosted microservices and REST API services.
- Monitor application health and perform structured troubleshooting across application, API, container, network, DNS and access layers.
- Investigate and resolve production issues impacting cloud-native applications and platform services.
- Support incident, problem and service request management processes, including P1/P2 incident recovery activities.
- Perform root cause analysis, maintain known error records and drive corrective actions to closure.
- Monitor SLA/KPI performance, minimise breach risks and maintain operational documentation and runbooks.
- Troubleshoot AWS services including VPC, Route 53, WAF, IAM, Load Balancers, certificates, secrets and networking components.
- Manage and support Amazon EKS/Kubernetes environments including clusters, pods, deployments, services, ingress, ConfigMaps, Secrets and autoscaling.
- Utilise logs, metrics, traces and monitoring tools to diagnose issues and validate service restoration.
- Develop and maintain dashboards, alerts, synthetic monitoring and health checks to improve service visibility.
- Automate repetitive operational activities using Shell scripting, Python and AWS-native automation capabilities.
- Support responsible AI and AIOps initiatives including event correlation, anomaly detection, incident summarisation and guided remediation.
- Participate in operational reviews, governance activities, audit readiness checks and continual service improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate effectively with platform, network, security, database and vendor teams to ensure service stability.
Who you are
- 3 to 5 years of experience in IT Operations, Application Operations, Cloud Support, Production Support, Site Reliability Engineering or related environments.
- Hands-on experience supporting AWS-hosted microservices, REST APIs and Amazon EKS/Kubernetes platforms.
- Strong understanding of HTTP methods, status codes, JSON, authentication, TLS, latency, retries and API troubleshooting.
- Practical experience with AWS services such as VPC, Route 53, WAF, IAM, CloudWatch, ECR and Secrets Manager.
- Proficiency in Linux/Unix administration, log analysis and scripting using Shell and/or Python.
- Experience using monitoring and observability platforms such as CloudWatch, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Kibana, Splunk, Datadog, Prometheus or Grafana.
- Knowledge of incident, problem, change and service request processes aligned to ITIL practices.
- Familiarity with container technologies, Helm, CI/CD pipelines, GitOps processes and rollback procedures.
- Exposure to CloudFormation, Terraform, Argo CD, CloudTrail, Systems Manager or Auto Scaling is advantageous.
- Understanding of AIOps, machine-assisted operational workflows or GenAI-assisted support practices is desirable.
- Strong analytical, communication, stakeholder management and documentation skills.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- AWS and ITIL certifications are preferred.
