About this Role
We are seeking an experienced Technical Lead to take end-to-end operational ownership of AWS-hosted microservices and REST API services running on Amazon EKS/Kubernetes. This role is responsible for ensuring service stability, availability, performance, resilience and security through proactive monitoring, incident recovery, problem management, operational readiness and continual improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership for mission-critical production environments, drive operational excellence, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance reliability through automation, observability and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.
What you will do
- Own the operational health, availability, performance, resilience and supportability of AWS-hosted microservices and REST API services.
- Act as the senior technical escalation point for complex application, API, container, networking, DNS and security incidents.
- Lead P1/P2 incident recovery activities and coordinate cross-functional troubleshooting efforts.
- Drive root cause analysis, corrective actions, known error management and reduction of recurring incidents.
- Ensure compliance with agreed SLAs, KPIs and ITIL-based service management processes.
- Troubleshoot AWS VPC components including subnets, route tables, security groups, network ACLs and load balancers.
- Investigate and resolve Route 53 DNS, hosted zone, routing policy and health check issues.
- Support AWS WAF operations, log analysis and approved security-related changes.
- Monitor and troubleshoot Amazon EKS/Kubernetes clusters, nodes, pods, deployments, services, ingress controllers and autoscaling behaviour.
- Perform operational activities including scaling, rollouts, rollbacks and service recovery through approved procedures.
- Correlate logs, metrics and traces to identify issues across distributed microservices environments.
- Build and maintain dashboards, alerts, runbooks, health checks and automation capabilities.
- Drive continual service improvement, operational risk reduction and process optimisation.
- Partner with application, DevOps, cloud platform, network, database, security and vendor teams.
- Mentor support engineers and contribute to knowledge management and capability development.
Who you are
- Extensive experience supporting business-critical production environments with AWS-hosted microservices and REST APIs.
- Strong operational expertise in AWS services including VPC, Route 53, WAF, IAM, load balancers and cloud networking concepts.
- Hands-on experience supporting Amazon EKS/Kubernetes workloads in production environments.
- Strong understanding of REST APIs, HTTP protocols, authentication mechanisms, TLS, latency management and error handling.
- Experience diagnosing application failures using logs, traces, monitoring tools and dependency analysis.
- Knowledge of Linux/Unix administration, log analysis and basic shell scripting.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes objects including Pods, Deployments, ReplicaSets, Services, Ingress, ConfigMaps, Secrets and Autoscaling.
- Experience with observability and monitoring platforms such as Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Kibana, Splunk or Zabbix.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, containerisation and deployment lifecycle management.
- Exposure to AWS CloudWatch, CloudTrail, ECR, Auto Scaling, Secrets Manager and infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Helm or Argo CD is advantageous.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, problem-solving and technical leadership skills.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
- AWS and ITIL certifications are desirable.
