About this Role
We are seeking an experienced professional to take ownership of AWS-hosted microservices and REST API services running on Amazon EKS/Kubernetes. This role is focused on ensuring service stability, availability, resilience, security and operational excellence across business-critical production environments. The successful candidate will lead technical incident recovery, drive continual service improvement, leverage observability and automation practices, and support the adoption of responsible AI/AIOps capabilities to enhance operational efficiency and customer experience.
What you will do
- Own the operational health, performance and supportability of AWS-hosted microservices and REST API services.
- Troubleshoot issues across applications, APIs, containers, networking, DNS, identity and security layers.
- Understand and analyse end-to-end service flows, dependencies, API gateways, authentication mechanisms and data pathways.
- Coordinate with cloud, network, security, database, service management and vendor teams to restore services efficiently.
- Lead and support major incident recovery activities, root cause analysis and preventive improvement initiatives.
- Monitor and improve SLA/KPI performance across Incident, Problem, Change and Service Request processes.
- Maintain operational documentation, runbooks, escalation procedures and readiness artefacts.
- Troubleshoot AWS VPC, Route 53, WAF, load balancing and connectivity issues.
- Monitor and support Amazon EKS/Kubernetes clusters, including nodes, pods, services, deployments, ingress configurations and auto-scaling behaviours.
- Execute approved recovery, rollback and scaling activities in alignment with operational controls and governance requirements.
- Correlate logs, metrics, traces and transaction data to diagnose failures across distributed services.
- Build and enhance dashboards, alerts, health checks and proactive monitoring capabilities.
- Automate operational activities using Shell scripting, Python and AWS-native services.
- Support responsible AI/AIOps initiatives including anomaly detection, event correlation, incident summarisation and guided remediation.
- Provide technical guidance to support teams and contribute to service governance, reporting and continual improvement activities.
Who you are
- You bring 7+ years of IT operations or application support experience with hands-on ownership of production services.
- You have proven experience supporting AWS-hosted microservices and REST API solutions.
- You possess strong operational expertise in Amazon EKS and Kubernetes environments.
- You have hands-on troubleshooting experience across AWS VPC, Route 53, WAF and cloud networking services.
- You have strong knowledge of REST APIs, HTTP protocols, authentication, authorisation, TLS, latency management and error handling.
- You are proficient with Linux/Unix administration, log analysis and Shell or Python scripting.
- You have experience with observability tools such as Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Kibana, Splunk, Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus or similar platforms.
- You understand ITIL processes including Incident, Problem, Change and Service Request Management.
- You have excellent analytical, stakeholder management, collaboration and communication skills. AWS and ITIL certifications are desirable.
