SENIOR, SOFTWARE ENGINEER (RUST)

Our team works closely with our US stores and eCommerce business to better serve customers by empowering team members, stores, and merchants with technological innovation. From groceries and entertainment to sporting goods and crafts, Walmart U.S. offers an extensive selection that our customers value, whether they shop online at Walmart.com, through one of our mobile apps, or in-store. Focus areas include customers, stores and employees, in-store service, merchant tools, merchant data science, and search and personalization.

As a Senior Software Engineer you will develop software systems and solve complex problems by leveraging state-of-the-art technology. You will collaborate with and execute major cross-platform executions as a team, or independently when needed.

What you'll do:

• Develop and optimize backend services and APIs using RUST, ensuring high performance and reliability.

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following Walmart's engineering standards.

• Demonstrates up-to-date expertise and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans by providing expert advice and guidance to others; supporting and aligning efforts to meet customer and business needs.

• Involved in the entire software development lifecycle, including system design. Analyse project requirements and design low level software architectures that meet these requirements.

• Responsible for writing automated tests to ensure that the software functions as expected and also debug / fix any issues or bugs that arise during the testing phase.

• Collaborate with architects, product managers, and other engineers to design robust system architectures.

• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and contribute to technical documentation.

• Knowledge and hands on experience of graphql will bring value add.

• Seamlessly integrate user-facing elements coded by front-end developers with server-side logic

• Design and implement applications that are low-latency, high-availability and high-performance

• Ensure data protection and security in all applications

• Participate in on-call duties. Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues, ensuring minimal downtime.

• Stay updated with the latest RUST ecosystem advancements and advocate for best practices.

What You’ll Bring:

• Build and maintain scalable microservices using Rust and related technologies.

• Integrate with internal and external APIs, ensuring secure and efficient data flow.

• Implement CI/CD pipelines for Rust projects using LooperPro and Walmart's standard tooling.

• Ensure code quality through automated testing and static analysis.

• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge sharing.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (preferred).

• 4+ years of software development experience, with at least 2 years in Rust.

• Strong understanding of systems programming, concurrency, and memory management.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, especially LooperPro for Rust projects.

• Familiarity with Linux and Mac build environments.

• Experience with Cargo, Rust toolchain, and publishing crates.

• Knowledge of RESTful APIs, distributed systems, and cloud-native architectures.

• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Walmart's internal CI/CD tools (LooperPro, Artifactory).

• Contributions to open-source Rust projects. Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
