Role summary:As a Senior Data Scientist at Walmart, you will leverage advanced analytical techniques and domain expertise to identify, develop, and deploy data-driven solutions that enhance business outcomes. About the team:
Inventory Decision Intelligence, part of Applied AI, owns the science and AI capabilities driving how inventory is ordered, positioned, transferred, and managed across Walmart's network.
We apply agentic AI and mathematical optimization to build scalable, reliable decision systems that work consistently across businesses, locations, and operating conditions - from defining decision logic and developing models to monitoring performance in production. In close partnership with engineering, product, and business, we improve inventory availability and sales while reducing excess and operating cost, ultimately delivering better experiences for customers and associates.
What you'll do:
- Design and implement optimization models and machine learning solutions that power intelligent, automated decision-making across inventory management operations.
- Develop, test, and deploy scalable models using advanced statistical, machine learning, and mathematical optimization techniques.
- Identify and evaluate data sources aligned with business requirements and quality standards.
- Perform exploratory data analysis and feature engineering to support model development and decision logic design.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex business problems into decision-driven, data-informed solutions.
- Create clear data visualizations to communicate findings and support decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with data governance, quality, and deployment standards throughout project lifecycles.
What you'll bring:
- Experience designing and developing optimization models and machine learning solutions that power automated decision-making systems.
- Strong foundation in data science, including advanced statistical methods, machine learning, and mathematical optimization techniques.
- Proficiency in Python and relevant data science libraries; familiarity with data visualization tools to communicate analytical findings.
- Strong knowledge of database technologies, including SQL and NoSQL systems, and data quality assessment practices.
- Ability to develop, test, validate, and deploy scalable models with a focus on reliability and production readiness.
- Solid understanding of business domains with the ability to translate complex requirements into decision-driven, data-informed solutions.
- Collaborative approach to work cross-functionally with engineering, product, and business stakeholders.

Bentonville, Arkansas US-10735: The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $180,000.00
Sunnyvale, California US-11658: The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00 - $234,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
