Gameplay Engineer (World of Warships)

Job Overview

Wargaming is looking for a Gameplay Engineer to work in the World of Warships Meta Team in our Belgrade office.

The Meta Team develops and maintains long-term, player-facing systems, including meta-gameplay activities, player progression and property, combat missions, achievements, and statistics. The work spans the game client and supporting backend systems, focusing on meta-gameplay rather than moment-to-moment combat.

Most feature and business logic is written in Python. We value clear thinking, the ability to understand unfamiliar systems, and a willingness to learn more than experience with any particular framework. You will join through a proven onboarding path and progressively take ownership of feature delivery in a large, established system.

What will you do?

• Own features from requirements clarification and design through implementation, release, and maintenance
• Develop and maintain meta-gameplay features across client and backend systems
• Work with persistent state, asynchronous flows, and integrations
• Investigate bugs, state inconsistencies, and production issues
• Collaborate with game design, product, QA, production, and engineering teams

What are we looking for?

• Practical software development experience, professional or through substantial self-directed projects
• Ability to understand and safely modify unfamiliar code
• Understanding of data modelling, stateful and asynchronous applications
• Ability to clarify requirements and communicate technical findings clearly
• Self-directed learning, curiosity, and strong communication skills
• Technical English for documentation, code, and comments
• Readiness to work in Belgrade, Serbia

Technology stack

• Game server/client development: Python 2.7, proprietary pipelines
• Web development: Python 3.10+, asyncio

What additional skills will help you stand out?

• Experience with FastAPI or Django
• Knowledge of Golang or C++
• Understanding of frontend development with JavaScript/TypeScript
• Experience maintaining long-lived production systems
• Experience diagnosing concurrency, state, or integration issues
• Experience with generated code or schema-driven systems
• A game mod, private server, bot, emulator, or reverse-engineering project
