Join the future of news

We’re on a mission to deliver riveting storytelling for all of America. At The Washington Post, you’ll help reinvent news. Our work is driven by a deep investigative spirit and enhanced by innovation to bring audiences closer to the stories that matter most.

About Our Team

The Washington Post is powered by the passion and talent of our people. It takes all of us to reinvent news. Beyond our award-winning Newsroom and Opinions teams, we work across many departments, including Brand & Events, Communications, Customer Care, Engineering & Product, Finance, Human Resources, Legal, Marketing & Advertising, Print Operations, and Sales.

Why This Role Matters

The Washington Post is seeking an industrious, organized and curious professional with a strong interest in journalism and an abiding love of food, lifestyle and culture coverage to join our Features department as an editorial aide.

The work of the Features Editorial Aide is foundational to the journalism we produce. This role supports writers and editors across the department through research, production, audience engagement and day-to-day newsroom operations, contributing to coverage that helps readers navigate their lives, discover new ideas and engage with culture.

We are looking for someone who thrives on variety and takes pride in getting the details right. The ideal candidate is curious, collaborative, driven and reliable, with the ability to juggle a wide range of responsibilities - from photo research and recipe roundups to newsletter production, social media and reader correspondence. This is an opportunity to develop as a journalist while working alongside experienced writers and editors devoted to the craft of feature storytelling.

This position is based in our Washington, D.C., newsroom.

What Motivates You

  • You have a voracious appetite for food, lifestyle, advice and culture coverage.

  • You enjoy being the person who keeps projects organized and makes sure important details don't fall through the cracks.

  • You are eager to learn how journalism comes together across digital, social and other platforms.

  • You enjoy collaborating with writers and editors and helping them execute ambitious ideas.

  • You are excited to develop your own writing, reporting and storytelling skills.

How You’ll Support the Mission

  • Coordinate, upload and fact-check credit information for images used across Features coverage.

  • Provide research and production support for multiple Features newsletters.

  • Build timely and engaging recipe roundups drawing from The Post's archive of more than 11,000 recipes.

  • Assist with the production of weekly advice and food live chats and columns.

  • Contribute to content development for Features social media accounts, including social video when appropriate.

  • Conduct photo research and assist writers and editors with reporting, research and other newsgathering tasks.

  • Help maintain and organize departmental archives and other editorial resources.

  • Manage general inboxes, respond to reader inquiries and help facilitate engagement with our audience.

  • Attend planning meetings, maintain calendars of upcoming events and provide project support across the department.

The Skills and Experiences You Bring

  • A strong interest in journalism and enthusiasm for food, lifestyle, advice, pop culture and related coverage.

  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.

  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong command of grammar.

  • Lively writing skills and an interest in developing as a feature writer.

  • Social media fluency; experience editing social video is preferred.

  • Ability to quickly learn the technical tools and publishing systems needed to produce journalism across digital and social platforms.

  • A collaborative spirit, reliability and an eagerness to learn from journalists throughout the department.

  • Creativity, curiosity and a sense of humor that will contribute to the dynamic culture of the Features department.

Interested candidates should upload a résumé and cover letter outlining their experience and interest in the role to our jobs portal. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by Sept. 15 will be prioritized. The cover letter should be addressed to Features Editor Amanda Finnegan and Deputy Features Editor Ellen McCarthy.

The salary range for this position is $54,600 - $63,500. The actual starting salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.

Collaboration makes us stronger. That’s why our offices are designed with open layouts, modern technology, and easy access to transportation. With certain exceptions for newsgathering and business travel, we work on-site five days a week.
