Join Our Team as a Civil / Environmental Engineer at Water Works Engineers!

Meet Water Works Engineers:

Water Works Engineers (WWE) is a leading civil and environmental engineering firm specializing in innovative and sustainable solutions for water infrastructure projects across the United States. For over 20 years, we have excelled in planning, designing, and implementing projects involving the treatment, storage, and conveyance of drinking water, recycled water, and wastewater. With offices in Scottsdale, AZ; Redding, Roseville, San Mateo, San Diego, and Los Angeles, CA; Star, ID; Albuquerque, NM; and Salt Lake City, UT, we bring an understanding and sensitivity to Western water and wastewater issues. Our expertise includes water and wastewater treatment, stormwater management, hydraulic modeling, and environmental compliance. Committed to innovation, integrity, and teamwork, we enhance the sustainability and resilience of the communities we serve.

Why this role matters:

As a Civil/Environmental Engineer at Water Works Engineers, you will join a collaborative and mission-driven team designing and supporting the construction of innovative water infrastructure solutions throughout New Mexico and the greater Southwest. Based in our Albuquerque office, you will support the planning, design, and construction of critical municipal water, wastewater, and recycled water systems. Many of our projects serve diverse communities-from rural towns to urban centers-and include pipelines, pump stations, storage tanks, treatment plants, and related facilities. This role is ideal for engineers with at least two years of professional experience and an EIT or PE certification who are passionate about building resilient, efficient infrastructure that enhances public health and environmental quality. In addition to design responsibilities, you will have opportunities to support projects during construction through field observations, construction documentation, contractor coordination, and resolution of field engineering issues. Your project work may also involve stormwater management, aquifer recharge, and coordination with treatment systems serving communities across New Mexico.

Your daily impact:

  • Support planning and design efforts for water, wastewater, recycled water, treatment, and conveyance systems.
  • Perform engineering calculations, site layout, hydraulic modeling, and preparation of technical documents.
  • Contribute to the development of construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Assist with permitting, regulatory compliance, and environmental documentation.
  • Support construction administration activities, including review of submittals and RFIs, field observations, construction documentation, and coordination with contractors and project teams.
  • Participate in site visits and field observations to evaluate construction progress and general conformance with contract documents and design intent.
  • Assist with identifying and resolving field engineering issues and documenting field adjustments for record drawings.
  • Participate in construction meetings and support communication among engineers, contractors, clients, and other project stakeholders.
  • Support QA/QC activities during design and construction and assist with documenting construction-related observations and issues.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including municipalities and utility districts.
  • Maintain quality and consistency across technical deliverables while supporting client goals, schedules, and project timelines.

What you bring to the table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant engineering experience in water, wastewater, or recycled water infrastructure.
  • EIT certification is required; PE licensure or the ability to obtain it within one year is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) and USEPA permitting processes.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, treatment processes, and site civil design principles.
  • Understanding of construction drawings, specifications, contract documents, and construction means and methods is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with construction administration processes, including RFIs, submittals, field observations, and change documentation, is beneficial.
  • Experience with software tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel for project meetings, fieldwork, and construction support, particularly within New Mexico.
