Staff Software Engineer

Waystar is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to contribute technically to its Aware platform. The role focuses on designing and implementing resilient, scalable software that addresses healthcare problems across the application delivery stack.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement highly resilient, scalable, and performant solutions that solve complex healthcare problems using VueJS, NodeJS, Java, AWS and more
• Participate in technical and product discussions with leaders across our engineering, product, and business teams
• Self-reliance, without supervision, while showcasing best design/communication/solution practices in daily works
• Ensure continuously improve our standard of engineering excellence

Skills

• 10 + years of software development experience
• Strong foundation in computer science principles, including algorithms, data structures, and system design building scalable web applications and backend services
• Expert understanding of software engineering best practices, such as version control, testing, and continuous integration
• NodeJS
• Java
• Spring
• JavaScript/TypeScript
• At least one modern frontend framework (VueJS, React, or Angular)
• SQL and relational databases
• REST API
• Automated testing (JUnit, TestNG, Jest, Vitest, or similar)
• Familiarity with web technologies, APIs, and distributed systems
• Familiarity with Shift Left and test automation
• Effective communication skills and ability to work both independently and in a team
• Highly self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership; proactively identifies opportunities, takes initiative without being asked, and follows through with persistence
• Experience with generative AI, machine learning, and predictive algorithms
• Familiarity with statistics and healthcare domain
• Expertise with distributed event streaming platforms like Kafka
• Experience with data pipeline technologies
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• 10+ years of progressive experience in software development, with a strong emphasis on building scalable, distributed systems
