Intern, Finance (Winter 2027, 8 months)

Term: 8 months, beginning January 11, 2027. Six tracks, one application.

About Finance at Wealthsimple

The Finance team is where numbers become decisions. We partner closely with business leaders across the company to make sure Wealthsimple is allocating resources wisely, hitting its targets, and building toward long-term sustainability. We are a high-trust team embedded in the business rather than reporting from the sidelines, and we hold ourselves to a high bar for both rigour and clarity.

About these roles

We are hiring six Finance interns for the Winter 2027 cohort, one on each of six teams. This single posting covers all six.

How to apply. Read the six tracks below, then tell us in the application form which one you prefer. Our recruiting team routes your application to that team's hiring manager. Pick the track you are most interested in and best prepared for. You do not need experience across all six areas, and we are not expecting it. If a second track appeals to you, name it as a second choice and we will consider you for both. We are less interested in whether you have done this exact work before than in how you think, how you ask questions, and what you do when the numbers do not tie.

Choose your track

Accounting & Financial Reporting. Every month, this team turns everything that happened across the company into a set of financial results, and stands behind every number in them. Inside a monthly close where every step has a deadline, you would prepare accrual and other entries needed that make a period complete. You would reconcile our corporate bank accounts and reconcile balances between our own legal entities. You would work on various projects to help continuously level up close processes, with the help of AI. You would also prepare balance sheet reconciliations in FloQast, our close software, and write the summary that explains what moved and why. This role is a strong fit for a CPA student or someone actively working toward the designation.

Brokerage Finance. This team reports the results for the regulated entities behind the products clients trade on: stocks and options, crypto, lending, and self-directed investing. Every trade, every crypto transfer, and every dollar of interest has to land accurately, and this team owns that. You would help record revenue from trading and crypto commissions, management fees, currency exchange, and interest, and reconcile client cash, securities, and crypto positions against what banks and custodians say we hold, chasing down anything that does not match by the next business day. You would also help prepare the data behind the filings our regulator requires, including the monthly and annual reports that show the brokerage holds enough capital. A single term on this team puts you close to clearing houses, market pricing, and a regulated capital calculation.

Internal Controls. Internal controls is how we know our reporting stays accurate as the company grows. We do not run the controls ourselves. The teams that own each process do, and we test that they are working, across the key processes that matter most to the financial statements. You would help test controls and gather the evidence, walk through processes with the people who run them, draw the flowcharts and write the narratives that explain how a process works, support the quarterly cycle where process owners confirm their controls execution, and help prepare the internal controls update that goes to the Audit Committee, and supports external audits, and testing activities to ensure deadlines are met. Wealthsimple is building this program to the ‘best practice’ standard, so you would see it while it is being designed rather than after it has settled.

Finance Operations (Procure-to-Pay). Most of what Wealthsimple spends with third parties runs through this team, from the moment someone asks for something to the moment the vendor gets paid, so it works with almost every team in the company. You would help people bring a purchase through Zip, our intake software, onboard new vendors, and move a request along when it needs a Legal, Security, Privacy, or vendor-risk review. On the payments side you would work alongside Accounts Payable to match invoices against the purchase order, code them to the right team and account, and route them for approval in Zip. You would also help more of our spend run through an approved purchase order before the invoice arrives, which is what makes spend visible before it is committed , and report on where requests slow down. High volume, high visibility, and a real seat in a process being rebuilt while it runs.

Treasury: Debt Capital Markets. Treasury owns the balance sheet: our cash, how we fund the business, how much capital we hold, and our exposure to interest rates. On the debt capital markets side you would support our credit facilities and other borrowing, tracking the limits, the conditions attached to them, renewals, and the reporting that goes to our lenders. You would also help model & forecast various scenarios and their potential impact to our funding. A rare look at capital markets work from inside a company rather than across a trading desk.

Treasury: Financial Partnerships. Our banking and fintech partnerships support a range of products used by millions of Canadians, including where client deposits are held. You would research current and potential banking partners, prepare analysis for negotiations, sit in on those conversations, and help track how each partnership is performing. You would also help build the tools and processes we use to monitor financial risks, including foreign exchange and interest-rate exposures. A hands-on look at how a fintech negotiates partnerships, manages risk, and turns a commercial agreement into a working product.

What you'll do, whichever track you join

  • Own real work from your first weeks, with a manager and a mentor who expect you to ask questions and form a view.

  • Learn one part of Finance deeply, and see how it connects to the rest of the company.

  • Bring AI into how the work gets done. Our teams already use tools like Claude in the monthly close and in automating repetitive steps, and we want you looking for the next place it helps.

  • Improve something. Every track has a process that could run better, and we would rather hear your idea than watch you work around it.

  • Learn how a fintech operates, and how to read financial and operational data in a business that moves quickly.

  • See the line from your work to the client. Everything these teams do ends up in a number someone trusts us with.

Skills you bring

  • Working toward a degree in accounting, business, finance, or a related field, or recently finished one.

  • A working understanding of accounting principles and concepts. You do not need to have seen the specific work in your track before.

  • Strong attention to detail, with the communication and collaboration skills to work across teams.

  • Comfort in a fast-moving environment with real deadlines.

  • Curiosity about technology, fintech, and how AI is changing the way a Finance team works.

  • Energy and intellectual curiosity, with a demonstrated interest in finance and analytics.

Application deadline is September 25th 11:59pm ET!
