We're looking for a Senior Python Engineer to design, build, and scale the backend systems that power our products. You'll own services end to end - from architecture and API design through to deployment and monitoring - and work closely with product, data, and DevOps teams.
Key responsibilities:- Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance backend services and APIs in Python- Lead technical design discussions and make sound architectural decisions- Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and champion engineering best practices- Review code and mentor junior and mid-level engineers- Optimise application performance, reliability, and security- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into technical solutions- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, observability, and production support- Stay current with the Python ecosystem and help evolve our tech stack

Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, with strong expertise in Python
- Solid experience with at least one major web framework (Django, FastAPI, or Flask)
- Strong understanding of RESTful API design; GraphQL experience is a plus
- Proficiency with relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and ORMs; NoSQL experience (Redis, MongoDB) is a plus
- Experience with asynchronous programming (asyncio) and task queues (Celery, RQ, or similar)
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), Docker, and Kubernetes
- Strong testing discipline (pytest, unit/integration testing, TDD)
- Familiarity with CI/CD, Git workflows, and monitoring/logging tools
- Good knowledge of software design patterns, system design, and security best practices
- Excellent communication skills and experience mentoring other engineers
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

Webbyfox is a UK-based Python web development agency. Our senior Python engineers build web applications and APIs for UK teams using Django and FastAPI.
We deliver new Django applications and FastAPI services, upgrade and rescue ageing Python/Django codebases, and provide Python developers for hire or white-label work. We also offer Wagtail CMS, AI-powered search and agents, and PHP (Laravel/WordPress) maintenance. Our stack centres on modern Django (5.2 LTS / 6.0), FastAPI and PostgreSQL.
Our recent work includes LetRecord, a compliance tool for landlords and letting agents in England, and RoomNest, a room-rental marketplace covering London, Birmingham and Manchester. We build to WCAG 2.2 AA and the GOV.UK Service Standard for public-sector projects.
