About the position
We are looking for an experienced Backend (Java) Engineer to join a long-term project in the insurance domain. The project brings together three interconnected applications into a unified ecosystem supporting claims handling, valuation management, and comparison of repair estimates with counter-offers.
The role focuses on backend development in a highly integrated environment, where multiple systems communicate through APIs. You will contribute to the development and maintenance of backend services while ensuring seamless integration between applications.
Key responsibilities:
Develop and maintain backend solutions using Java and PostgreSQL.
Implement and maintain integrations between multiple systems using APIs.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable and scalable solutions.
Support the modernization of existing applications, including Java version upgrades.
Apply secure coding practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
Required Experience & Skills
Must have
Commercial experience with Java 8 backend development (experience in upgrading Java versions is a plus).
Experience working with PostgreSQL.
Experience integrating systems via REST APIs in a complex, interconnected environment.
Knowledge of Apigee.
Understanding of application security principles, including OWASP Top 10 and secure coding best practices.
Nice to have
Experience upgrading applications to newer Java versions.
Experience with AWS.
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
Experience with AI-based OCR and document processing.
