The Role

We're looking for someone to be the right hand to Wefunder's founder & CEO. You'll report directly to Nick, master how the operation works today, and position it for serious growth as regulation opens up.

This isn't a caretaker role. You'll set the direction, drive urgency, and keep us profitable - all while staying lean. We'd rather ship smarter with AI, automation, and great product than hire our way out of problems.

If it goes well, you'll step into the CEO seat for the Retail division within 12 to 18 months. Full ownership - strategy, culture, growth. The whole thing.

Location & Culture

We're strong believers in an in-person culture. Our HQ is in San Francisco - we have two offices, one in the Mission and one in Seacliff with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge.

We're a small team of ~30 that hires carefully. In this new AI world, one star can outcompete 10 average people. We'd rather stay lean, move fast, and spend our time building - not navigating big-company bureaucracy.

We're tight-knit enough to spend 10 days on a train together without killing each other. Four times over the years, we've all taken the Amtrak coast to coast, stopping in 12 cities. We're a team of doers and thinkers who are insatiably curious - not just about work, but about kickboxing, mountaineering, chess, and everything in between.

What We're Looking For

• Lead with operational excellence.

  Lead Wefunder's Retail division, ensuring focus, discipline, and accountability across the business. Deliver strong growth and profitability, with success measured by significant year-over-year revenue expansion and sustained profitability.

• Keep the team lean and aligned.

  Align a small team around a clear strategy while fostering a strong in-person culture - minimum four days per week in San Francisco. Attract and develop exceptional talent while maintaining a high-performing team.

• Master the details.

  Deeply understand the current Regulation Crowdfunding business and identify areas for immediate improvement in execution. Make decisive calls, including hiring and performance management, to ensure a culture of ownership and accountability.

• Leverage AI and automation.

  Use product innovation, AI, and automation to improve efficiency and scalability without significant headcount growth. Over 70% of our new code is AI-generated - you'll embrace this and push it further.

• Champion the mission.

  Champion Wefunder's mission and PBC charter, ensuring ethical treatment of individual investors. Work closely with Nick and the board on long-term strategic bets while ensuring current operations remain profitable and mission-aligned.

• Prepare for what's next.

  Regulation is about to change in a big way. Get us ready - figure out what's coming and make sure we're positioned to move fast when everyday investors get more access.

Requirements

• Mission-driven

  Deeply committed to democratizing access to startup investing. High-integrity leader who prioritizes ethical treatment of individual investors and long-term trust over short-term KPIs.

• Proven operator

  Experience leading high-impact teams in fast-changing environments, ideally within marketplaces, fintech, or other complex, regulated industries. Senior executive background with demonstrated exposure to capital raising and investor engagement is strongly preferred.

• Instills urgency

  Demonstrated ability to align teams and inspire through action rather than rhetoric. Exceptional judgment - able to move quickly without sacrificing wisdom or context.

• Lean and scrappy

  Thrives in a lean, mission-driven startup environment where autonomy, accountability, and smart execution matter more than process and headcount.

• Talent magnet

  Track record of attracting and developing outstanding talent. Protects unconventional thinkers. Product-oriented mindset, with a bias toward substance and scalable execution over surface-level marketing.
