Manager, ASFL Compliance - Sydney, Australia

The AFSL Compliance Manager is responsible for the governance, oversight and ongoing management of Western Union Australia’s obligations under the Australian Financial Services License (AFSL) and other relevant compliance frameworks.

The role serves as the primary AFSL subject matter expert, ensuring compliance with licensing obligations through governance, monitoring, policy development, and stakeholder engagement.

Operating with a high degree of independence, the position partners across business functions to oversee licensing activities, interpret regulatory changes, oversee regulatory engagements and support strategic initiatives through independent advice, review and challenge.

The role protects Western Union Australia from regulatory and operational risk while enabling sustainable business growth through a robust and effective compliance framework.

Role Responsibilities

  • Manage the governance framework supporting the AFSL, including monitoring license conditions, maintaining Responsible Manager requirements, reviewing licensing obligations, and arrangements are in place to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance.
  • Lead licensing activities including license applications, variations, regulator notifications, attestations, submissions, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Assess regulatory changes and emerging obligations, advising the business on required control, policy and procedure uplift and independently reviewing implementation.
  • Conduct independent compliance oversight, thematic reviews, risk assessments, monitoring activities and oversight of remediation related to licensing obligations and regulatory commitments.
  • Provide compliance advisory support to strategic initiatives, product developments, business changes and senior stakeholders while promoting a strong compliance and conduct culture.

Role Requirements

  • Minimum 8+ years of experience within Compliance, Regulatory Affairs, Risk Management, Legal or Financial Services Governance, including at least 5 years managing licensing, regulatory compliance or governance activities.
  • Bachelor's degree in law, Finance, Commerce, Business, Governance, Risk Management or related discipline.
    • Postgraduate qualifications in Compliance, Governance, Risk or Law desirable.

Work Shift
