The team you will be a part of

The Software Engineering team designs, develops or coordinates development/troubleshooting or debugging of moderately complex software programs for enhancements and new products. Performs high-level design/modeling to convert stakeholder needs into software solutions. Develops software and tools in support of design, infrastructure and technology platforms. Determines hardware compatibility and/or influences hardware design. Develops the architectural guidelines, specifications, and technical standards and communicates to stakeholders.

This role in summary

We are looking for a talented software engineer with experience in designing and developing embedded software to be part of our global software development team at Whirlpool. You will be part of a diverse team that is responsible for developing the software for Whirlpool’s smart and connected products.

Your responsibilities will include

The Embedded Software Engineer is a versatile software developer working in Scrum teams that can develop embedded software components for Home Appliances. This person will implement and integrate complex HMI and IoT software components for Whirlpool’s smart and connected appliances. The role requires an understanding of software development methodologies while working in a collaborative cross-functional team.

Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the overall software development and implementation of Whirlpool’s smart and connected IoT products and non conectivity home appliances working in an Agile environment
• Understand system level requirements and translate into software architecture and development requirements
• Apply development skills and state of the art industry solutions for embedded software and bring the best of these solutions to Whirlpool products.
• Develop and integrate software using sound software development methodologies, including writing design documents, adhering to coding standards and creating and executing unit tests.
• Provide creative solutions to complex problems.
• Participate in functional, technical, and code reviews.

Minimum requirements

Bachelor’s Degree

• (4-8) year(s) of software development experience in an embedded environment

Preferred skills and experiences

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science
• Experience with professional software engineering practices over all aspects of software development life-cycle including writing requirements specifications, developing design guidelines and coding standards, performing code reviews, source code control, build systems, testing, release engineering and field support
• Knowledge in computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, operating systems, etc.
• Knowledge of Embedded systems, hardware
• Knowledge with a variety of languages including C, JavaScript, Python and Shell Script
• Knowledge of IoT, WiFi, BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) and RESTful protocols

Additional information

Knowledge about performance and memory usage in embedded systems

• Knowledge of network protocols and formats (HTTPS, MQTT, JSON, XML, etc)
• Experience with software development tools such as Git, Jira, Visual Studio Code, etc ...
• Proficient software development skills and agility to adapt to new languages and programming environments.
• Working knowledge of Agile and Waterfall SD LCs.
• Ability to solve problems especially debugging of complex software systems
• A passion for applying latest technologies into the development of innovative features and products
• Familiarity with continuous integration and test
• Basic knowledge of electronics with the ability to understand schematics and how it correlates with the software
• Test case writing in Jira x ray or any other similar tool .
• Black box & unit level Testing
• Knowledge of Automation testing in embedded domain
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Self-motivated and a strong passion for learning
• A collaborative attitude and strong desire to succeed as part of a global cross-functional team
