Atlassian Williams F1 Team is one of the world’s leading Formula 1 teams. It exists purely to race in the top echelon of motor racing.

Nothing goes on the car until you sign it off. Component Assembly is where suspension, brake, steering, power unit integration and drive-train assemblies are built, stripped, serviced and passed off, for race cars, test cars, PR cars and customer cars alike.

It is a specialist function with a short line to the design office. When you find something wrong during a strip, the person who can fix it is in the same building. Your sign-off is the last check before a part goes on a car that races, so the standard is simple: no defect gets passed on.

What you'll be doing

  • Building, stripping and servicing Williams and customer suspension, brake, steering, power unit integration and drive-train components to Engineering and Manufacturing procedure
  • Assessing every component as it comes apart and goes back together, and reporting faults rather than working around them
  • Operating pass-off and test rigs
  • Raising assembly and quality issues with the team leader or the relevant design authority
  • Building to deadlines set by the race and test calendar, working from the daily work list
  • Recording build and component information accurately in our systems, so the life history of every part stands up to scrutiny
  • Keeping the workshop and equipment to the standard the work demands

Company Description

For almost 50 years, Williams F1 Team has been at the forefront of one of the fastest sports on the planet, being one of the top three most successful teams in history competing in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship. With an almost unrivalled heritage of engineering and racing F1 cars and unforgettable eras that demonstrate it is a force to be reckoned with, the British squad boasts 16 F1 World Championship titles to its name.

Since its foundation in 1977 by the eminent, late Sir Frank Williams and engineering pioneer Sir Patrick Head, the team has won nine Constructors’ Championships, in association with Cosworth, Honda and Renault. Its roll call of drivers is legendary, with its seven Drivers’ Championship trophies being lifted by true icons of the sport: Alan Jones, Keke Rosberg, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve. The team has made history before and is out to make it again with a long-term mission to evolve and return to the front of the grid.

Qualifications

What you'll bring

You'll have hands on experience assembling complex mechanical components to tight tolerances, ideally in F1, F2 or sportscar racing, though we'll also talk to people from aviation or other high-precision engineering backgrounds. Comfort with Teamcenter PLM, CAD drawings and lifing systems will help you settle in quickly, and any ERP or manufacturing execution system experience is useful.

Experience with hydraulic assemblies - PAS, brake-by-wire, dampers - is a real advantage. We also build and service hydraulic components in this department, and it's a route to specialise if that interests you.

What you'll get

Work you can point at on Sunday. A Monday to Friday pattern in a part of the business that does not live on the road, with the full run of components across race, test and customer cars rather than one narrow sub-assembly. Direct access to the engineers who design the parts you build, which is the fastest route to understanding why a component is the shape it is.
