Job Objective

To provide field support, resolve incidents and assigned problems, and install, maintain and manage network and facilities equipment for WIOCC Group companies, including Open Access Technical Services (OATS), and clients

Reporting Line: Regional Operations Manager (South Africa)

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • 24/7 field assistance, on-call, out of hours and night / weekend / public holidays working as required
  • Install fibre cables on access and core routes according to best practices and standards
  • Commission fibre spans and end to end fibre circuits through use of OTDR and OLTS
  • Attend to fibre breakdown and preventative maintenance
  • Liaise with internal Project Managers and 3rd part suppliers for the execution of the designed plans
  • Assist with management & planning of overall fibre network, including auditing and record management
  • Incident and problem resolution as directed by NOC / TAC / NMC
  • Work with and assist to manage contractors and vendors
  • Assist service managers as directed, including clients and supplier meetings
  • Assist with technical shareholder support / shareholder consultancy and sales support
  • Assist with network quality and performance management
  • Creation of ad hoc reports as needed
  • Drive company vehicles as required, travel as required including to Africa, EU, UK
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Matric (or equivalent school-leaving certificate), including Mathematics and English
  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field (desirable)
  • Technical certifications in CCNA, Cisco, MikroTik and Fiber Optic (desirable)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Valid driver’s license

Experience & Skills

  • Requires minimum of 3 year’s technical experience in telecom industry
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to follow instructions
  • Ability to use systems effectively to record information accurately, concisely and in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and solve problems in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience using tools and test equipment, including OLTS, OTDR, OSA, Ethernet/OTN testers and splicing machines
