WM

WM New Zealand provides sustainable waste management solutions for homes, businesses, and construction projects across New Zealand. Explore our services, incl.

Let’s take care of work that matters - people, place and purpose. From roads to recycling to reporting, everyone at WM New Zealand (WM) helps take care of our people, protect our whenua and support our communities.

We’re more than waste management - we’re problem solvers, innovators, and hands-on doers. Every one of us, whether behind the wheel, on the tools, or shaping strategy behind the scenes, is helping build a better Aotearoa.

We all pull together on this waka and if you want work that matters, with people who’ve got your back, you’re in the right place.

The role you’ll play

We’re looking for an organised and solutions-focused Despatch & Weighbridge Coordinator to join our Christchurch team.

Our Technical Services division specialises in the safe collection, transport and processing of hazardous, liquid and medical waste. With purpose-built facilities, specialised vehicles and experienced teams, we provide essential services that help keep our customers, communities and environment safe.

Sitting at the core of our daily operations, you’ll connect customers, drivers and operational teams to ensure jobs are scheduled effectively, routes run smoothly, and vehicles and materials move safely through the site.

This is a role where plans can change quickly. A driver may be delayed, a job might need to be rescheduled, or an urgent customer request could come through. You’ll be the person who works through the options and helps find the best way forward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Scheduling and allocating daily jobs across our services.
  • Monitoring routes and job progress to ensure work is completed safely and on time.
  • Responding quickly when jobs are delayed, rejected, reallocated or rescheduled.
  • Keeping drivers, customers and internal teams informed of changes or service delays.
  • Reviewing routes and identifying opportunities to improve productivity and efficiency.
  • Coordinating vehicles and materials moving on and off site through the weighbridge.
  • Directing site traffic and helping maintain safe, compliant vehicle movements.
  • Checking waste declarations, Safety Data Sheets and other required documentation.
  • Completing weighbridge transactions, price checks, financial confirmations and reporting.
  • Responding to customer enquiries by phone, email and in person.
  • Maintaining accurate records and delivering a high standard of customer service.

What you’ll need

You’ll be someone who can think on your feet, confidently juggle competing priorities and communicate clearly with a wide range of people.

Ideally, you’ll also bring:

  • Experience in despatch, transport, logistics, fleet coordination or a similar operational role.
  • Strong customer service experience and a professional communication style.
  • Excellent organisation and time-management skills.
  • The resilience to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • The ability to learn new systems and operating procedures quickly.
  • Strong attention to detail when working with documentation, pricing and operational data.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing to a close-knit team.
  • A genuine commitment to health, safety and doing things the right way.
  • Experience with transport regulations, CRM or operational systems such as Salesforce, Elemos or JDE would be useful, but it isn’t essential.
  • Experience within the waste or hazardous materials sector would also be an advantage.
