AML Regulator | Help shape the future of AML/CFT regulation in Aotearoa

New Zealand’s AML/CFT system is changing - and we are looking for people who want to help shape what comes next.

Join Te Tari Taiwhenua | Department of Internal Affairs and help protect New Zealand’s financial system from money laundering and terrorism financing.

We are building a modern regulator who is more sophisticated, more risk-based, curious, analytical and comfortable exercising judgement. One that uses data, technology and AI to see patterns earlier and targets regulatory effort where it matters most. To help us achieve this, we need people who understand risk, ask the right questions and work constructively with businesses to achieve better regulatory outcomes.

As an AML Regulator you will focus on supervision, investigations and enforcement. You will work across a diverse range of sectors, using information, intelligence and evidence to understand where the greatest risk sits and determine the right regulatory response. You’ll undertake compliance reviews, engage directly with regulated entities and contribute to investigations and other regulatory interventions.

We’re looking for a modern regulator who:

  • thinks about risk and outcomes, not simply whether a box has been ticked
  • is curious and knows how to dig beneath the surface
  • can analyse complex information and turn it into sound regulatory judgement
  • understands that effective regulation can involve education, engagement, influence and enforcement
  • communicates confidently and can have constructive but challenging conversations
  • is comfortable working with legislation and applying it to real-world situations
  • wants to continuously improve how regulation is delivered.

Your work will help ensure serious risks are identified and addressed, regulatory decisions are evidence-based and proportionate, and the reporting entities have clear expectations.

You don’t necessarily need to have spent your career in AML/CFT. Experience in regulatory compliance, investigations, fraud, audit or law could give you many of the skills we need. AML/CFT experience is desirable.

Why now?

DIA has moved to become New Zealand’s sole AML/CFT regulator, creating an opportunity to strengthen regulatory capability and build a highly effective, responsive and risk-based regulator.
