X1

Headquartered in San Francisco, California, X1 is a Y Combinator-backed software startup providing an AI-driven app development platform for iOS. The platform structures application creation into sequential modules - including Idea, Brand, Design, Build, Publish, and Revenue studios - that walk builders through product planning, UI layout editing, React Native code generation, milestone QA, and monetization strategy.

About X1

X1 is building the best way to create and launch an iPhone app with AI.

Most AI app builders try to generate an entire product from one prompt. We take a different approach. X1 works through the product step by step: understanding what you're building, designing the screens, building the app, testing it on a real iPhone, and helping you publish it to the App Store.

We're a small YC-backed team, and we're looking for someone to help us figure out how to make millions of people know X1 exists.

The role

Your job is to come up with UGC concepts and scripts people actually want to watch.

Not corporate content.

Not "3 reasons you should use X1."

Not ads that immediately feel like ads.

We want stuff people would actually send to their friends.

That might be:

  • A completely insane app idea
  • A reaction video
  • A skit
  • A hyper-specific problem someone decided to build an app for
  • Some format none of us have thought of yet

You'll spend a lot of time studying TikTok, Reels, Shorts, creators, consumer apps, memes, and whatever else is winning attention on the internet.

Then you'll turn those observations into concepts we can test with creators.

What you'll do

  • Write short-form UGC scripts for TikTok, Reels, and YouTube Shorts
  • Generate a high volume of new concepts and hooks every week
  • Find interesting ways to show X1 without making the content feel like an ad
  • Study viral content and break down why it worked
  • Find emerging formats before every brand starts copying them
  • Write multiple variations of promising concepts
  • Work with creators to make scripts sound like something they would actually say
  • Review performance and use it to make the next batch better
  • Turn winning concepts into repeatable formats we can scale
  • Kill ideas that aren't working without getting emotionally attached to them

This isn't a role where someone hands you a brief and asks you to write the copy.

We want you coming up with the ideas.

Who we're looking for

You are probably extremely online.

You understand why someone stops scrolling, why they keep watching, and why they send a video to their group chat.

You have strong taste and can immediately tell when something feels forced, generic, or like a brand trying too hard to sound young.

You should be:

  • Very good at writing hooks
  • Naturally creative and able to generate lots of genuinely different ideas
  • Deeply familiar with TikTok, Reels, Shorts, memes, creators, and internet culture
  • Funny, or at least unusually good at recognizing what's funny
  • Comfortable making content that's weird, edgy, specific, or slightly unhinged
  • Interested in consumer apps, startups, technology, or products people actually use
  • Comfortable looking at performance data and changing your opinion when something doesn't work
  • Fast

We don't care much about where you went to school or how impressive your resume looks.

We care much more about your taste, ideas, and understanding of the internet.

If you've spent an embarrassing amount of time studying TikTok, that may genuinely be more useful here than five years at an advertising agency.

What success looks like

You won't be judged by how polished your strategy decks are.

You'll be judged by whether people watch the content.

The loop is:

idea → hook → script → creator → publish → learn → better idea

We want to eventually turn UGC into one of X1's largest acquisition channels.

Our process is designed to test how you actually think about content rather than how well you interview.

Step 1: Application review. We'll primarily look at your answers to the creative questions, examples of previous work, and the content you chose to share with us.

Step 2: 30-minute conversation with the founder. We'll talk about the internet, creators, content you think is working right now, your creative process, and how you come up with ideas. This will be informal and conversational.

Step 3: Paid creative trial. Finalists will complete a short paid project where you'll develop several UGC concepts and scripts for X1. We're looking at originality, quality of hooks, range of ideas, speed, and whether the content actually feels native to short-form platforms.

Step 4: Final conversation + offer.

We move quickly. Great creative work matters significantly more to us than pedigree or years of experience.
