Overview:

The role supports the development, validation, and lifecycle management of Xerox production inkjet products and systems. This role is focused on system-level testing of production inkjet presses, with responsibility for developing test strategies, exercising press functionality, collecting and analyzing reliability data, and supporting engineering change validation. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to plan and execute system test activity, retrofit new hardware, support engineering try-outs, track press volume, and report product performance, reliability, and issue trends. This role also provides day-to-day technical direction to operators and technicians supporting test execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a system test job matrix designed to exercise the full range of press features, functions, configurations, and customer-use scenarios.
  • Plan and execute system-level testing on production inkjet equipment to evaluate functionality, reliability, image quality, media handling, productivity, and overall system performance.
  • Collect, analyze, and roll up test data to measure product reliability, identify trends, and support product readiness decisions.
  • Track press volume, fault activity, service actions, engineering changes, and test outcomes across planned test cycles.
  • Work with engineering teams to install, retrofit, and validate new hardware, subsystems, and design changes on test equipment.
  • Support engineering change try-outs by planning test coverage, coordinating execution, documenting results, and communicating risks or concerns.
  • Investigate system issues, perform troubleshooting, support root-cause analysis, and recommend corrective or preventive actions.
  • Create and maintain test plans, procedures, status reports, reliability summaries, and other engineering documentation.
  • Provide daily direction to operators and technicians, including test priorities, machine usage, data collection expectations, and escalation needs.
  • Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, software, image quality, service, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams.
  • Participate in design reviews, test readiness reviews, issue reviews, and cross-functional technical meetings.
  • Support new product introduction, product improvements, field issue resolution, and lifecycle reliability activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve product reliability, test efficiency, data quality, serviceability, and customer experience.

Skills and Experience Needed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with product development, system testing, reliability testing, hardware validation, or troubleshooting of complex electromechanical systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret technical data and identify meaningful trends.
  • Ability to plan structured test activity and translate product requirements, risks, and field-use conditions into practical test coverage.
  • Experience supporting root-cause analysis and working through complex hardware, software, or system-level issues.
  • Familiarity with test planning, data collection, reliability tracking, technical reporting, and engineering documentation.
  • Ability to coordinate work across operators, technicians, and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Strong technical communication skills, including clear written reports, issue summaries, and recommendations.
  • Experience with production printing systems, inkjet technology, media handling, automation, or high-volume equipment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Excel, Power BI, JMP, Minitab, Python, or similar tools is helpful.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Comfortable working hands-on with large production equipment in a lab or test environment.
  • Able to balance structured test planning with day-to-day troubleshooting and shifting engineering priorities.
  • Detail-oriented, with strong ownership of test execution, data integrity, and follow-through.
  • Able to lead without direct authority by coordinating technicians, operators, and engineering partners.
  • Curious, practical, and persistent in understanding how complex systems behave under real operating conditions.
