We are seeking a seasoned Engineering Director / Senior EM (Manager of Managers) to take ownership of the Core Data Engine & Indexing Group. This group forms the foundational layer of our entire technical ecosystem, ensuring that massive volumes of user data and state changes (tens of billions of events monthly) are ingested, synchronized, and made instantly queryable by our application layers, analytical frameworks, and cutting-edge LLM context-retrieval models.

Core Areas of Impact & Scale
The group's core objective is to maintain ultra-low latency, strict data freshness, and absolute resilience across our global platform. Under your leadership, multiple engineering teams will focus on:
Massive-Scale Ingestion Pipelines: Designing highly concurrent, fault-tolerant write paths capable of handling relentless data streams with guaranteed transactional integrity.
Real-Time Event Fabric: Driving the evolution of our low-latency pub/sub and messaging transport layers to sync state seamlessly across microservices.
Unified Search & Retrieval Engine: Optimizing indexing strategies, query execution plans, and retrieval algorithms to deliver sub-second search results over petabyte-scale datasets.
Historical State & Ledger Systems: Scaling the high-volume data stores responsible for tracking, auditing, and exposing complex system-wide mutation logs in real time.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Vision & Roadmapping: Define the long-term technical and organizational roadmap for the Data Infrastructure domain, aligning it with company-wide business objectives.
Leadership of Leaders: Direct-manage, coach, and elevate a team of Engineering Managers (Team Leads) and Principal Engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, psychological safety, and technical excellence.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product Directors, Principal Architects, and business stakeholders to proactively unblock product development teams with robust data APIs.
Architectural Oversight: Collaborate with the Group Tech Lead to evaluate infrastructure trade-offs, ensuring that engineering efforts translate into scalable and maintainable production systems.
Pragmatic Delivery: Maintain a strong bias for action. Understand system limitations, leverage creative engineering to overcome constraints, and prioritize continuous value delivery over rigid organizational ceremonies.
Your Profile
Distributed Systems Expertise: Deep background in backend engineering, with extensive experience in tackling performance, caching, and storage challenges at scale.
Data Infrastructure Literacy: Strong familiarity with modern high-throughput data tools (e.g., Kafka, ElasticSearch/OpenSearch, Redis, or distributed NoSQL databases) and system optimization techniques.
Manager of Managers Experience: Proven track record in a Senior EM or Director-level role, with direct experience coaching Team Leaders and aligning multi-team operations.
Product-Minded Engineering: A pragmatic problem-solver who understands that great architecture serves a business purpose. You focus on why a system is being built, not just how.
Impact & Execution Focus: Experience delivering complex, end-to-end infrastructure migrations and upgrades in fast-paced environments.
Excellent Communication: Strong written and verbal English skills, with the ability to communicate technical complexity clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
