At Yext, Product Engineering builds and evolves the technology behind our products and services. We’re looking for software engineers who want to solve meaningful technical problems, contribute to systems at scale, and help shape what we build next.

We work in an agile environment with two-week sprints and regular demos that keep teams aligned and give engineers clear visibility into the impact of their work. From day one, you’ll contribute directly to the codebase and collaborate with experienced engineers from a wide range of leading universities and technology companies.

We are looking for an engineer to join Team Watson, which owns and develops the systems that power Yext Search and Yext Chat. The team builds the indexing, retrieval, and serving technology that enables brands to deliver fast, relevant answers across their websites and digital experiences. Yext Search handles more than 50 million requests each month, serving users around the world in over a dozen languages. Watson also brings these search and retrieval capabilities to Yext Chat, helping conversational experiences generate useful answers grounded in trusted customer content.

Because Watson’s systems serve real-time, customer-facing experiences at a global scale, engineers on the team work on systems where performance, relevance, and reliability are essential. This gives engineers excellent opportunities to develop experience building scalable search and retrieval systems, solving challenging distributed-systems problems, and applying AI to products used directly by brands and their customers.

This role is based in our Rosslyn, VA office, where in-person collaboration plays an important part in how our teams work, learn, and build relationships. We’re looking for people who genuinely value that environment and are comfortable coming into the office at least three days per week. At the same time, we don’t prescribe specific in-office days and want employees to have the flexibility to handle personal needs without disrupting their work or team collaboration.

What You’ll Do  

• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from design and implementation through testing, deployment, and ongoing operation
• Contribute to the design, implementation, and deployment of highly scalable and reliable systems
• Develop storage systems, libraries, and frameworks 
• Proactively contribute ideas for new features and identify opportunities to improve our products, systems, and engineering practices
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues across engineering and with partners throughout the company
• Write clean, tested, and well-documented code
• Use AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully to accelerate engineering work, explore solutions, improve code quality, and reduce repetitive tasks
• Critically evaluate, test, and validate AI-generated output rather than treating it as inherently correct
• Maintain ownership of all work produced with AI assistance, including its correctness, security, maintainability, and alignment with our engineering standards

What You Have  

• A BA/BS in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent college-level education 
• 1+ years of professional software engineering experience 
• A strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software design 
• Fluency with Java, Go, C++, Python, or a similar programming language (we code primarily in Java and Go) 
• Openness to new technologies, new ways of working, and creative solutions 
• Comfort working in a fast-paced environment
• The ability to evaluate technical solutions critically, including code and recommendations produced by AI tools
• Experience using-or a demonstrated interest in learning-AI-assisted development tools as part of a responsible engineering workflow
• Sound judgment regarding data privacy, intellectual property, security, and the appropriate use of confidential information when working with AI tools

Pay ranges at Yext are established based on an analysis of salaries for positions with a similar level of accountability and impact in the relevant labor market. Salary levels are expected to change to reflect an employee’s job performance (results and impact) over time. Salaries at the time of hire are typically offered in the lower to middle of the above-referenced range in order to provide the opportunity to reflect performance-based increases over time. In addition to base salaries, employees at Yext are typically eligible for a comprehensive package of benefits including medical, dental and vision benefits; life insurance; short term and long-term disability; 401(k) retirement plan; and vacation and sick leave. Successful candidates may also be eligible for variable pay programs based on performance relative to goals and targets.

Annual Base Pay Range

$121,500—$263,000 USD
