Young Living is the World Leader in Essential Oils®. Through the painstaking steps of our proprietary Seed to Seal® process, we produce pure, authentic essential oil products for every individual, family, and lifestyle.

Summary

The Software Engineer builds and maintains Shopify-based solutions supporting Young Living’s global member and customer experience across more than 30 markets, processing over 6 million orders and $800 million in annual transaction volume. This role contributes to storefront functionality, custom applications, APIs, and backend integrations using Shopify, JavaScript/TypeScript, C#/.NET, and AWS.

Software Engineer II is the primary hiring target. Candidates demonstrating strong foundational skills and development potential may be considered at Software Engineer I, with responsibilities and expectations aligned to their experience and capabilities.

Software Engineer I works under close supervision to complete assigned development tasks, contribute to established solutions, and develop technical proficiency. Software Engineer II independently completes development work, leads smaller projects, participates in peer code reviews, mentors less-experienced engineers, and supports production systems.

Agentic coding tools are the primary development workflow. Engineers are expected to use these tools from the start of employment, with guidance appropriate to their level, and remain accountable for the quality, security, and accuracy of their submitted work.

Preference is given to candidates residing in Utah. Exceptional out-of-state candidates willing to relocate at their own expense may be considered. Relocation assistance and visa sponsorship are not provided.

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of Shopify custom applications, including embedded applications using React and Shopify App Bridge.
  • Work with Shopify Admin API, Storefront API, Webhooks, and GraphQL to support commerce functionality and extend platform capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain APIs and integrations connecting Shopify with internal and third-party platforms, including order management, supply chain, and logistics systems.
  • Develop frontend and backend components using JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, React, and C#/.NET.
  • Contribute to backend services and integrations running on AWS, including solutions using Lambda, EventBridge, SQS, and DynamoDB.
  • Write clean, testable, well-documented code and participate in peer code reviews appropriate to the position’s level.
  • Use agentic coding tools to support development, including effective prompting, context management, and determining when manual development is appropriate.
  • Review and test AI-generated changes to verify functionality, security, and alignment with team standards before submission.
  • Support troubleshooting, production issue resolution, root-cause analysis, and ongoing system improvements. Occasionally provide support outside regular business hours, including evenings and weekends, to respond to critical Priority 1 (P1) production incidents. These situations are expected to be infrequent, with support responsibilities appropriate to the employee’s level.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product owners, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and contribute to technical solutions.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum activities, including sprint planning, task estimation, standups, retrospectives, and demonstrations.
  • Support quality assurance and user acceptance testing to verify that solutions meet acceptance criteria before release.
  • Assist with Shopify configuration and deployment across Young Living’s global storefronts.
  • Maintain documentation of technical decisions, integration maps, and operational runbooks.
  • Follow established practices for security, performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Continue developing technical skills and learning emerging technologies as directed by senior IT leadership.
  • Software Engineer I:Complete assigned, well-defined development tasks under close supervision, contribute to established designs, and incorporate feedback from senior engineers.
  • Software Engineer II:Independently design, develop, and deliver frontend, backend, and integration solutions within established architecture and team standards.
