Healthcare should work for patients, but it doesn’t. In their time of need, they call down outdated insurance directories. Then wait on hold. Then wait weeks for the privilege of a visit. Then wait in a room solely designed for waiting. Then wait for a surprise bill. In any other consumer industry, the companies delivering such a poor customer experience would not survive. But in healthcare, patients lack market power. Which means they are expected to accept the unacceptable.
Zocdoc’s mission is to give power to the patient. To do that, we’ve built the leading healthcare marketplace that makes it easy to find and book in-person or virtual care in all 50 states, across +200 specialties and +12k insurance plans. By giving patients the ability to see and choose, we give them power. In doing so, we can make healthcare work like every other consumer sector, where businesses compete for customers, not the other way around. In time, this will drive quality up and prices down.

Your Impact on our Mission:
As a Principal Product Designer at Zocdoc, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of how patients discover care and how providers and practices deliver it, operating across product areas with a holistic, ecosystem-level perspective. You will define and drive design direction across large, complex, and highly ambiguous spaces, influencing not just solutions but product strategy and experience architecture. This role requires deep systems thinking across our multi-sided platform, ensuring that experiences are cohesive, scalable, and aligned across marketplace and provider surfaces.
As we evolve toward AI-native product development, you will help lead this transition by defining how design and engineering collaborate in an AI-driven environment and establishing new standards for how ideas move from concept to production using tools like Cursor, Claude Code, and other emerging technologies. Your work will have a direct and lasting impact on millions of patients and providers, shaping both the near-term product experience and the long-term trajectory of healthcare technology at Zocdoc.

Your day to day is…
- Defining and leading design direction across complex, multi-team product areas, identifying high-leverage opportunities and guiding teams toward impactful solutions
- Partnering with product, engineering, data, and leadership to shape strategy, influence roadmaps, and drive alignment across ambiguous spaces
- Designing and overseeing cohesive, end-to-end experiences across systems, ensuring scalability and consistency across marketplace and provider and practice products
- Establishing and evolving design systems, frameworks, and patterns that enable high-quality, extensible solutions across teams
- Elevating the quality bar through hands-on work, critique, and mentorship while connecting execution to a broader product and experience vision
- Driving efficient delivery of high-impact work, guiding tradeoffs between speed, fidelity, and long-term scalability
- Leading the integration of AI-native workflows, using emerging tools to accelerate concept-to-production cycles and define new ways of working

- A proven track record of leading and delivering high-impact product work across complex, multi-team problem spaces, with strong product judgment and the ability to influence strategy and direction
- Exceptional craft, creativity, and taste, consistently producing work that raises the bar and pushes both product quality and brand forward
- Deep systems thinking, with experience designing across journeys and building scalable, reusable frameworks that connect experiences across a multi-sided ecosystem
- The ability to operate as a trusted partner to product, engineering, and leadership, driving alignment and clarity in ambiguous environments
- A strong balance of speed and quality, with a track record of shipping at scale and guiding teams toward effective execution and tradeoffs
- Experience working closely with engineering and leveraging emerging AI-native tools and workflows to increase impact and evolve how products are built
- A history of raising the bar through mentorship, critique, and design leadership

Zocdoc is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Salary ranges are determined through alignment with market data and internal equity. The base salary offered will depend on experience, skills, qualifications, and business needs. Certain positions are also eligible for variable pay and/or equity.
Silicon Valley, CA Base Salary Range
$170,000—$260,000 USD
