Overview
Contextual AI builds a platform for enterprise retrieval-augmented generation that lets companies build grounded AI agents over their own documents and data. Its RAG 2.0 approach trains retrievers and language models together as Contextual Language Models, sold as a platform and as component APIs for parsing, reranking and generation. Founded in 2023 in Mountain View by Douwe Kiela and Amanpreet Singh, it raised an $80 million Series A led by Greycroft in 2024, and in May 2026 licensed its technology to Google DeepMind, which hired Kiela and more than 20 researchers.
