Overview
Wizards of the Coast is an American games publisher founded in 1990 that created Magic: The Gathering, the first collectible card game, and acquired Dungeons & Dragons in 1997. It has been owned by Hasbro since 1999 and is by some distance the most profitable part of that group, since collectible cards and roleplaying books carry economics far better than plastic toys and are bought by adults rather than by parents. Headquartered in Renton, Washington, it publishes physical products alongside digital versions including Magic: The Gathering Arena, and it has expanded into video game development through its own studios.

Universes Beyond
Magic sets built on licensed properties from other franchises. Licensing brings in players who care about the property rather than the game, and it has become one of the strongest sales drivers in the range.

D&D Beyond
The digital toolset for running and playing Dungeons & Dragons campaigns. Selling rulebooks as digital content converts a one-off purchase into an ongoing subscription relationship with the group running the game.

Magic: The Gathering Arena
The digital version of the card game with its own economy and competitive play. Digital play reaches players who will never find a local game shop, and it removes the printing cost from every card sold.

Dungeons & Dragons
The tabletop roleplaying game acquired in 1997, now extended into digital tools and film. Its cultural resurgence expanded the audience far beyond the hobby players who sustained it quietly for decades.

Magic: The Gathering
The collectible card game that created the category in 1993 and remains the group's most profitable property. Repeat purchase and a genuine secondary market give it economics that behave far more like a platform than a toy.
