Monarch is a nonprofit provider of specialty mental health, substance use and intellectual and developmental disability services across North Carolina, with its administrative base in Albemarle. It began in 1958 as the Stanly County chapter of the North Carolina Association for Retarded Children and now runs outpatient therapy, crisis and urgent care, residential and day programs, assertive community treatment, tailored care management and a mobile mental health clinic.
