Overview
The NEAR Foundation is a Swiss non-profit based in Zug that supports the NEAR Protocol, a sharded proof-of-stake blockchain that launched its mainnet in 2020. It funds protocol research, developer tooling and regional ecosystem programmes, with an emphasis on account abstraction and mainstream usability. In recent years the organisation has directed much of its funding toward decentralised artificial intelligence and chain abstraction initiatives.
