Overview
Ripple is an American company founded in 2012 that sells cross-border payment and custody infrastructure to financial institutions, built around the XRP Ledger and its associated digital asset. Its history is dominated by a five-year lawsuit from the Securities and Exchange Commission over whether XRP sales constituted unregistered securities offerings, which it largely won in 2023 and which ended in 2025, freeing it to expand in the United States. Headquartered in San Francisco, it has since acquired the prime brokerage Hidden Road and the stablecoin infrastructure firm Rail, and it issues the dollar stablecoin RLUSD.
