Vespa.ai develops Vespa, an open-source platform for search, retrieval-augmented generation, recommendation and ad targeting over large data sets. The engine stores and computes over vectors, tensors, text and structured data in one system, and it is open source since 2017 with more than ten million Docker Hub downloads and used by Spotify, Yahoo and Fortune 500 companies. The technology began in 2001 with the AllTheWeb search engine in Trondheim and ran inside Yahoo until its 2023 spin-out, after which it raised a $31 million round led by Blossom Capital as a Series A investment.
