Overview
Zhipu AI is a Chinese artificial intelligence company spun out of Tsinghua University in 2019 and one of the country's leading foundation model developers. It builds the GLM family of large language and multimodal models, releasing many of them with open weights, and serves them through a consumer assistant, an open developer platform and on-premise deployments for enterprise and government customers. Headquartered in Beijing and backed by Alibaba, Tencent and several state-linked funds, the company has drawn particular attention for its agentic products and for being added to United States export control lists in 2025.
