WordPress / WooCommerce Developer (Contract 3-4 months)

We are looking for an experienced Senior PHP / WooCommerce Developer to build a reusable WooCommerce plugin that integrates multiple e-commerce websites with the client's centralized order management system and custom payment gateway.

Key Responsibilities
Design and develop a reusable WooCommerce plugin for multiple independent websites.
Integrate WooCommerce with external order management systems through REST APIs.
Implement reliable API communication, webhook handling, error logging, and retry mechanisms.
Develop and maintain custom WooCommerce payment gateway integrations.
Support payment processing, transaction status updates, callbacks, and refunds.
Use AI coding tools to improve development productivity, code quality, debugging, and testing.
Leverage AI to support code generation, refactoring, documentation, and automated test development.
Review and validate AI-generated code to ensure correctness, security, performance, and maintainability.
Apply AI-assisted development practices while maintaining established coding standards and version control processes.
Develop automated tests for critical integration and checkout workflows.
Maintain technical documentation covering architecture, configuration, APIs, and deployment.

Requirements
5+ years of professional PHP development experience, with strong object-oriented programming (OOP) skills.
3+ years of hands-on WooCommerce plugin development, including building custom plugins from scratch.
Strong understanding of WordPress and WooCommerce architecture, hooks, actions, filters, and APIs.
Proven experience integrating WooCommerce with external systems using REST APIs and webhooks.
Experience developing or customizing WooCommerce payment gateway integrations.
Strong knowledge of PHP, MySQL/MariaDB, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
Hands-on experience customizing WooCommerce checkout, cart, and customer account workflows.
Experience with JavaScript, AJAX, and modern frontend development practices.
Understanding of WooCommerce coupons, discounts, pricing rules, and promotional functionality.
Good knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, and reusable component development.
Experience handling asynchronous processing, API errors, retries, and data synchronization.
Practical experience with AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar solutions.
Ability to effectively use AI tools for software design, implementation, debugging, refactoring, and testing.
Strong understanding of AI-generated code, with the ability to independently review, validate, and improve it rather than relying on AI output without verification.
Familiarity with Git, debugging, automated testing, and secure coding practices.
Ability to independently solve complex technical problems and take ownership of deliverables.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience developing reusable plugins deployed across multiple WooCommerce websites.
Familiarity with WooCommerce HPOS, Action Scheduler, and Checkout Blocks.
Experience with React, Gutenberg, or WordPress block development.
Experience with Composer, PHPUnit, PHPStan, or similar development tools.
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated plugin deployment.
Experience integrating e-commerce platforms with ERP, CRM, or order management systems.
Understanding of payment security and PCI DSS requirements.
Experience implementing complex coupon, promotion, shipping, or dynamic pricing rules.
Experience with agentic AI coding workflows, including planning, implementation, code review, and automated testing.
Familiarity with integrating AI-assisted development into Git, CI/CD, and automated quality checks.
Experience working with remote teams using Agile methodologies.

Contract full-time remote job. The approximate Phase 1 project duration is 3-4 months.
