EV Technician (Mechanical)

About the Role

Sparrow Mobility is looking for a skilled EV Technician (Mechanical) to handle mechanical inspection, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of electric vehicles.

This role focuses on EV drivetrains, suspension systems, braking systems, thermal management, and mechanical components integrated with electric powertrains, ensuring optimal vehicle performance, safety, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, service, and repair mechanical systems of electric vehicles
• Perform maintenance on EV drivetrains, gear reduction units, axles, and wheel assemblies
• Inspect, repair, and replace suspension, steering, and braking systems (including regenerative braking interfaces)
• Maintain EV thermal management systems (battery, motor, and power electronics cooling/heating)
• Conduct preventive maintenance according to OEM standards
• Identify abnormal noise, vibration, or wear affecting EV performance
• Carry out wheel alignment, torque checks, and mechanical calibration
• Support EV battery removal and installation from a mechanical handling perspective
• Ensure proper mechanical integration of electrical and electronic components
• Follow safety and lock-out/tag-out procedures around high-voltage systems
• Maintain accurate service and inspection documentation
• Collaborate with electrical EV technicians and engineers for integrated fault resolution
• Support field operations and breakdown response when required

Educational Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma, OND, HND, or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, Mechatronics, or related field
• 3-5 years experience in automotive or EV mechanical maintenance
• Hands-on experience with modern vehicle mechanical systems and EV platforms
• Strong understanding of EV drivetrain and chassis systems
• Experience working with OEM service manuals and technical documentation

• EV mechanical diagnostics and repair

• Thermal management system maintenance
• Precision measurement and torque application
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and service manuals
• Strong problem-solving and fault isolation skills
• Safety-conscious mindset (especially around high-voltage systems)
• Teamwork and cross-functional collaboration
• Good documentation and reporting skills

Certifications (Added Advantage)

• EV or Hybrid Vehicle Maintenance Certification
• OEM EV training (BYD, Tesla, Nissan, Hyundai, etc.)
• Automotive mechanical certification
• Workplace safety or lock-out/tag-out certification

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Number of EVs mechanically serviced per period
• Preventive maintenance completion rate
• Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) - mechanical faults
• Compliance with mechanical service schedules
• Post-service inspection pass rate
• Brake system performance compliance (including regenerative interfaces)
• Suspension and steering alignment accuracy
