Summary/Objective

Your leadership and passion as Executive Director of Housekeeping Director will foster an engaged team of housekeeping professionals whose exceptional service and skills are turning moments into memories for our guests.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Asst Director of Rooms, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service
  • Recruit, train, lead and support all employees to ensure the maintenance of all Hotel guest rooms, public areas and heart of the house areas for the highest standards of cleanliness.
  • Develop and update training manuals and checklists to reflect standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct daily shift briefings and regular departmental meetings with colleagues.
  • Create and maintain good working relationships within the department and with other departments such that a high level of morale is sustained.
  • Regularly inspect and audit performance and provide effective recognition and performance management.
  • Work with the Senior Asst Director of Rooms to prepare annual operations budget.
  • Effective departmental scheduling to maximize productivity and manage labor costs.
  • Effective purchasing with the use of Birch Street to ensure high quality products are offered to guests while managing expenses.
  • Work with the Senior Asst Director of Rooms to forecast monthly expenses and labor costs
  • Work with the Senior Asst Director of Rooms to deliver financial summaries and training to rooms division leaders
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance programs with the Director of Engineering.
  • Creates an environment that allows employees to achieve job fulfillment and provides a path for career development with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. Develops strong teams through active involvement in the operations and through the development and support of a continually evolving team.
  • Conduct regular meetings with all external contractor companies to ensure Fairmont standards are consistently met, in a cost-effective and efficient manner.
  • Conduct regular Housekeeping Meetings to keep colleagues informed of policies and procedures, special events, further improvement plans and Guest comments
  • Keep informed of the housekeeping standards of competitor hotels
  • Conduct leader performance evaluations on a timely basis, including corrective action and coaching. Directly influences the future effectiveness of the hotel through involvement in recruitment, hiring, training & motivation of Housekeeping colleagues and leaders.
  • Provides Guidance and motivation to the Housekeeping Team. Establishes and communicates on a daily basis with the Housekeeping Team. A strong commitment to Colleague Satisfaction.
  • Controls and provides feedback on labor and operational expenses.
  • Interact professionally with individuals outside the hotel, such as suppliers, contractors, and competitors
  • Ensure that all departmental reports and correspondence are completed punctually and accurately
  • Monitor and audit all Health & Safety aspects of the various Housekeeping departments, ensuring all staff are fully trained and up-to-date on Health & safety issues regarding chemicals, equipment and hygiene.
  • Has ultimate responsibility and accountability for safety training of all department employees and for the overall accident record of the department. Is responsible for taking necessary proactive steps to reduce/eliminate employee accidents
  • To carry out frequent inspection tours in Guest rooms/Public areas to up-keep cleanliness - general repair - replacements as required.
  • Accept responsibility for carrying out other management duties as requested by the Director of Rooms
  • Work with the Senior Asst Director of Rooms and Engineering team to deliver an effective PPM program
  • Work to ensure the in-house laundry is effective in reducing the need to outsource laundry services

  • Minimum of 5 years management experience in Housekeeping is a requirement, preferably with a luxury hotel brand
  • Working knowledge of Property Management system Opera an asset
  • Proven hands on management style and ability to lead through example in all areas is essential
  • Proven ability to successfully lead, train and motivate colleagues is essential
  • Must be highly organized, energetic and possess the ability to get the job done
  • Strong administration, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Dynamic, energetic, creative and thrives under pressure
  • Working knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel
  • University/College degree in a related discipline is an asset
  • Previous exposure to Front Office an asset
