A&D Engineering, Inc. is seeking an experienced and hands-on Electrical Engineer to design, develop, test, and continuously improve electronic hardware for advanced automotive, propulsion, and test and measurement systems. This position will play an important role in the development and evolution of the AM2 platform and future generations of A&D products, with a strong emphasis on printed circuit board (PCB) design, analog and digital electronics, prototype development, hardware validation, and troubleshooting.

The ideal candidate combines strong circuit-design fundamentals with practical experience taking electronic hardware from concept through prototype, validation, and production. The Electrical Engineer will work closely with software, firmware, mechanical, systems, manufacturing, and quality teams to deliver reliable, manufacturable, and innovative electronic solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • PCB & Electronic Hardware Design
  • Design analog, digital, mixed-signal, and power-electronics circuits.
  • Develop PCB schematics, layouts, and supporting design documentation for AM2 and future products.
  • Select electronic components based on performance, availability, reliability, lifecycle, and cost requirements.
  • Perform circuit analysis, simulation, component evaluation, and design reviews.
  • Apply sound design practices related to signal integrity, power integrity, EMC/EMI, thermal performance, and reliability.
  • Ensure PCB designs meet performance, manufacturability, cost, quality, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with PCB fabrication and assembly partners throughout prototype and production builds.
  • Support board bring-up, debugging, design verification, and validation.

Product Development

  • Contribute to new product development and enhancements to existing A&D platforms.
  • Translate product and system requirements into hardware architectures, designs, and technical specifications.
  • Participate in architecture reviews, design reviews, risk assessments, and verification activities.
  • Support engineering technology roadmaps for future test, measurement, and control systems.
  • Help transition electronic designs from concept and prototype through production release.

Testing, Validation & Troubleshooting

  • Develop test plans and execute hardware verification and validation activities.
  • Troubleshoot electronic circuits, PCB assemblies, interfaces, and integrated system issues.
  • Perform structured root-cause analysis and develop corrective actions.
  • Use laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, signal generators, and digital multimeters.
  • Support EMC/EMI, environmental, reliability, and product qualification testing as required.

Cross-Functional Engineering

  • Partner with software and firmware engineers to integrate electronic hardware and embedded systems.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers on packaging, connector interfaces, thermal management, and manufacturability.
  • Support manufacturing and quality teams during prototype builds, production launches, and issue resolution.
  • Work with suppliers to resolve component, PCB fabrication, and assembly issues.
  • Provide technical input during engineering design reviews and customer-facing project discussions.

Engineering Documentation

  • Create and maintain accurate engineering documentation, including:
    • Electrical schematics and PCB layouts
    • Bills of Materials (BOMs)
    • Design specifications
    • Test plans and procedures
    • Verification and validation records
    • Engineering change documentation
    • Maintain documentation in accordance with A&D configuration-management and engineering-change-control processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of professional experience designing electronic hardware and PCBs.
  • Hands-on experience with PCB schematic capture and layout using Altium Designer, OrCAD, Cadence, KiCad, or similar ECAD platforms.
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit design, mixed-signal electronics, power electronics, signal and power integrity, EMC/EMI design considerations, and microcontrollers or embedded systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and interpret electronic schematics.
  • Experience performing PCB bring-up, testing, debugging, and validation.
  • Proficiency using common electronic laboratory and test equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and root-cause-analysis skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing electronics for automotive, propulsion, test and measurement, industrial, or other highly engineered products.
  • Experience with communications interfaces such as CAN, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, and UART.
  • Familiarity with embedded firmware development.
  • Experience with FPGA-based systems.
  • Knowledge of IPC standards and Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM/DFA) practices.
  • Experience supporting a product from initial concept through prototype, verification, production release, and lifecycle support.
  • Understanding of automotive functional-safety, EMC, reliability, and environmental requirements.
  • Experience working directly with PCB fabrication and electronics manufacturing suppliers.

Success Measures

  • Deliver high-quality PCB and electronic hardware designs on schedule.
  • Support successful development and enhancement of the AM2 platform.
  • Reduce hardware defects through disciplined design, review, testing, and validation practices.
  • Improve product reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability.
  • Resolve hardware issues quickly through effective troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
  • Collaborate effectively across engineering and manufacturing disciplines to accelerate product development.
