AECOM is an American infrastructure consulting firm that became independent in 1990 through a management buyout from the energy group Ashland, and is now one of the largest design and engineering organisations in the world. It plans, designs and manages delivery of transport systems, water and wastewater infrastructure, buildings, environmental remediation and energy projects for public agencies and private developers across roughly one hundred and fifty countries. Headquartered in Dallas after relocating from Los Angeles, the company sold its self-perform construction and government services arms to concentrate on higher-margin professional services rather than carrying construction risk.

The successful candidate will contribute to the design of resilient mechanical infrastructure while collaborating with experienced multidisciplinary Data Center teams across Canada, the U.S., and globally. This is an opportunity to develop specialized expertise in a rapidly growing sector while working on complex, high-performance facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical systems for data centers and mission-critical facilities, including HVAC, heat-rejection, chilled-water, hydronic, and critical cooling systems.
  • Perform cooling-load calculations, equipment sizing, capacity planning, and other mechanical engineering analyses.
  • Prepare mechanical plans, schematics, schedules, details, specifications, and supporting calculations.
  • Apply applicable Canadian building, mechanical, energy, fire, and plumbing codes and requirements.
  • Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, electrical, structural, civil, controls, fire protection, technology, and other disciplines.
  • Support design criteria addressing reliability, redundancy, resiliency, maintainability, energy efficiency, and capacity.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews, quality reviews, and project coordination meetings.
  • Support construction-phase services, including RFIs, submittal reviews, site observations, commissioning activities, and resolution of technical issues.
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, vendors, utilities, and other project stakeholders.
  • Perform work in accordance with project scope, schedule, budget, and quality requirements.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
    • 4+ years of relevant mechanical engineering or building mechanical design experience, or demonstrated equivalency of education and experience.
    • Experience designing building mechanical systems and preparing calculations, drawings, schedules, specifications, and technical documentation.
    • Working knowledge of applicable Canadian building, mechanical, energy, fire, and plumbing codes and requirements.
    • Registered, or eligible to register, as a Professional Engineer within Canada.
    • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with hyperscale, colocation, mission-critical, healthcare, laboratory, industrial, or other complex facilities.
    • Experience designing data center HVAC, cooling, and heat-rejection systems.
    • Knowledge of reliability, redundancy, resiliency, and maintainability concepts.
    • Experience with chilled-water systems, cooling towers, dry coolers, CRAH/CRAC units, fan-wall systems, economizers, hydronic distribution, or liquid-cooling technologies.
    • Experience with computational fluid dynamics, energy modelling, or other mechanical-system analysis tools.
    • Experience with Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
    • Familiarity with applicable ASHRAE, CSA, NFPA, Uptime Institute, TIA-942, ANSI/BICSI 002, and other data center industry standards.
    • Relocation is not available for this position.
