AECOM is an American infrastructure consulting firm that became independent in 1990 through a management buyout from the energy group Ashland, and is now one of the largest design and engineering organisations in the world. It plans, designs and manages delivery of transport systems, water and wastewater infrastructure, buildings, environmental remediation and energy projects for public agencies and private developers across roughly one hundred and fifty countries. Headquartered in Dallas after relocating from Los Angeles, the company sold its self-perform construction and government services arms to concentrate on higher-margin professional services rather than carrying construction risk.

What You’ll Do

As part of our AI Engineering team, you will serve as a senior individual contributor, owning the infrastructure and delivery workflows that move machine learning from experimentation into reliable production systems. This is a high-ownership role where you will influence technical direction, architecture, developer velocity, and production stability.

  • Own and evolve production ML infrastructure for training, deployment, serving, and monitoring
  • Build and improve CI/CD, automation, and model delivery workflows used across the engineering team
  • Develop Python services, APIs, and platform tooling that support production ML workloads
  • Own reliability, observability, performance, availability, and security across production ML systems
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues across software, infrastructure, and ML workflows
  • Drive architecture decisions and partner with ML engineers, data engineers, and product teams to deliver scalable AI products

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Demonstrated experience deploying, operating, monitoring, and supporting machine learning systems in production
  • Experience building and owning ML pipelines, model deployment, serving, monitoring, or lifecycle infrastructure
  • Solid programming skills in Python, plus experience with web libraries such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django
  • Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker), CI/CD pipelines, and cloud environments (we use Azure)
  • Experience making architecture decisions and troubleshooting complex production systems for reliability, scalability, and performance
  • Ability to operate independently, take end-to-end ownership, and provide technical leadership within a highly collaborative engineering team
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Kubernetes and infrastructure as code, such as Terraform
  • Experience with ML lifecycle tooling such as MLflow, Weights & Biases, or similar platforms
  • Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or OpenTelemetry
  • Experience with distributed ML workloads, model serving, GPU infrastructure, or performance optimization
  • Background in reinforcement learning, optimization, or generative AI

Our Hiring Process

  • 25-minute screening call
  • Take-home challenge: A hands-on task to assess your problem-solving and technical skills
  • Combined technical and cultural interview (in-person)
    • Whiteboard Interview: 1-hour with 2 of our engineers to discuss your solution to the take-home challenge
    • Culture fit: 30-minute meeting with our leadership team

Why Join Us?

  • Work on real-world problems where AI creates measurable impact.
  • Be part of a team where your work matters, and your ideas become real.
  • Collaborate with sharp, driven colleagues in a culture of trust, ownership, and high standards.
  • Contribute to making the built environment smarter and more sustainable.
