The Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Engineering team in UK & Europe provides a range of services from the initial concept through Power Systems Analysis, Cabling, Substations, Transmission and Distribution Infrastructure, System Balancing and Compensation, Protection Systems, SCADA, Communications, Overhead Line designs for the grid modernization, battery storage, data centre projects.
Due to continued growth across a breadth of projects and clients in the Netherlands, we are looking for an Technical Lead to join the Transmission & Distribution business. As a Technical Lead T&D at AECOM Netherlands, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of medium to high voltage (>110kV) electrical systems, substation, grid connection and powerline projects from inception to completion. Leveraging your strong electrical engineering background and project leadership skills, you will oversee all technical aspects of project execution, ensuring compliance with industry standards, client requirements, and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, engineering, and delivery of Grid modernization, high voltage substation, renewables, Battery Storage and powerline projects (>110kV) from concept through commissioning support.
Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, designers, and external stakeholders, including AECOM global teams to ensure seamless project execution.
- Act as Technical lead for multi-disciplinary design projects, overseeing various disciplines, including substation primary, cables, protection & control, civils, overhead lines, and environmental scopes.
- Develop and review technical specifications, drawings, and documentation in line with project and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the site installation and commissioning works
- Oversee the network modelling and related power system studies
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to project team members, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Oversee project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to meet project milestones and deliverables.
Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards throughout all project phases.
- Represent AECOM with professionalism and integrity, adhering to ethical standards and the Code of Conduct.
- Foster a "Safety by Design" culture while maintaining high technical standards by staying informed on industry best practices and client standards to improve safety, constructability, and asset operability.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities including engaging Distribution or Transmission supply authorities to understand technical requirements for interfacing to supply networks.
- Support the preparation of bids and proposals, including technical input, risk assessment, and cost estimation for T&D projects.
- Support in business development for expanding the T&D business
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues as they arise during project execution.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, technologies, and best practices in high voltage transmission and distribution.
- Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and professional development support to team members.
- Identify capability and resource requirements and support recruitment and workforce planning.
- Perform internal reviews and quality checks of engineering drawings and calculations.
- Identify opportunities for design optimization and cost efficiencies.
- Develop collaboration with international engineering and delivery centres to create an effective integrated delivery model.
- Promote the adoption of digital engineering, automation, data-driven approaches and AI-enabled tools.
- Identify opportunities to standardise and automate engineering processes to improve quality, efficiency and consistency.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Power Systems engineering (or equivalent).
- Transmission & Distribution/ renewables/ large infrastructure design experience including multi-disciplinary scope.
- Extensive experience in the design and delivery of high voltage (>110kV) substation and powerline projects in the Netherlands
- Experience working with Dutch TSO/DSO requirements and the Dutch electricity market.
- Proven experience leading engineering teams and delivering complex power infrastructure projects.
- Site experience
- Strong understanding of relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations.
- Excellent client facing, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and innovation.
- Commercial awareness and experience supporting bids, proposals or business development.
- Fluency in English and Dutch;
- Preferred professional engineering registration or chartership.
Experience with one or more of the following Softwares
- AutoCAD, MicroStation - for design and drafting
- ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory,PSCAD - for electrical system modeling and analysis
- CDEGS or similar - substation earthing design
- PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, or similar - for overhead line design
