Airbus is a European aerospace group formed in 1970 as a consortium of French, German, British and Spanish manufacturers to build a competitor to the American aircraft industry, and now the largest commercial aircraft maker in the world. Its passenger jets run from the A220 through the best-selling A320 family to the A350 widebody, built in an unusual pan-European industrial system where major sections are made in different countries and flown to final assembly lines. Beyond airliners it is the largest civil helicopter maker, builds telecommunications and observation satellites, and supplies military aircraft including the A400M transport.

About us:

Are you passionate about aviation innovation? Do you have a natural curiosity for problem-solving?

Quality Engineering is a vital transnational team within Airbus Commercial Aircraft. We ensure the highest quality assurance standards, driving the development of cutting-edge designs and technologies for both our new aircraft programs and existing product lines.

We collaborate closely with our engineering teams to ensure our products consistently meet all regulatory requirements, uphold stringent safety standards, and safeguard Airbus's global reputation.

An apprenticeship in Quality Engineering offers a unique opportunity to work across all Airbus Commercial Aircraft programs. You'll gain invaluable insights into the entire lifecycle of passenger aircraft, freighters, and private jets - from development and production to in-service processes. Starting your career in Quality Engineering provides a broad foundation, setting you up for excellent progression opportunities throughout Airbus.

Community & Culture

Being an engineering quality apprentice at Airbus means being part of a vibrant, supportive community. You will join an extensive apprentice network where you can share experiences and build lifelong professional connections. Beyond technical training, we provide dedicated support to guide your personal and professional growth, fostering a strong sense of belonging within our transnational team.

What you will be doing:

In this role, you will play a crucial part in our quality assurance mission, gaining the hands-on experience needed to launch your career in aerospace.

Right from the start of your apprenticeship, you'll gain hands-on experience by spending two days a week with our quality engineering teams at the Airbus facility in Filton (Bristol). For the remainder of the week, you'll attend Weston College (based at our site in Filton) to pursue an Engineering Manufacturing Technician Level 4 qualification.

From your second year onwards, your time at college will progressively decrease, allowing you to immerse yourself more fully in impactful projects and activities within the business.

Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll complete a variety of placements within quality engineering and related functions. You'll engage in crucial quality assurance activities such as:

  • Root Cause Analysis: Investigating the underlying reasons for problems to ensure they are solved permanently, rather than just addressing the symptoms;
  • Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA): Predicting potential risks or failures in designs or manufacturing processes to prevent them before they occur;
  • Big Data Analysis: Interpreting large sets of information to spot trends, improve performance, and make data-driven decisions;
  • Design Assurance: Validating that designs are developed correctly from the start to meet rigorous safety and regulatory standards;
  • Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP): A structured framework used to ensure quality is built into the product development process from concept to delivery.

You will develop an excellent understanding of how quality engineering contributes to the successful design and delivery of modern commercial airliners. You will gain experience of working as part of a large multi-disciplinary transnational team engaged in the forefront of aerospace engineering. You will learn how to put into practice the latest quality methods and make use of the most modern digitalisation tools.
