Amazon is an American technology and retail conglomerate founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994 as an online bookstore and headquartered in Seattle, Washington. It operates the world's largest online marketplace together with a global logistics network, physical grocery stores and a third-party seller platform that accounts for most units sold. Amazon Web Services, launched in 2006, is the leading public cloud provider and generates the majority of the group's operating profit, while advertising, Prime Video, Alexa devices and Kuiper satellite broadband round out the business.

Amazon is building the next generation software, hardware, and processes to run our state-of-the-art global fulfillment network that moves many millions of units of inventory, ensuring that customers get what they want when promised. We are constantly innovating in the ways we are automating and accelerating the delivery of packages which includes custom robotics, mechatronics, conveyance, supply chain optimization, machine learning, manipulation, image processing, and real-time data processing using distributed systems.

We are looking for a System Development Manager with a passion for creating a step function change in an established domain by leveraging controls software development skills. You will guide a team of talented engineers to transform the way we develop and integrate controls applications for MHE systems within our global network of advanced warehouses. This position is a unique opportunity to be involved in a wide range of automation projects right from the start. You will work with multiple internal Amazon R&D and design teams as well as automation strategic partners who have the technology and resources to meet Amazon’s growth needs on a global scale.

This role is in a newly established team which will create edge compute solutions for industrial automation applications. It is an early-stage initiative with a fast paced, start-up like environment inside Amazon, so to be successful you need to be flexible and entrepreneurial. You are a true owner - you are hands on and you set the example. You and your team will be working on all the aspects of the development cycle including scoping, design, implementation, testing, and delivery of your product. This is a unique opportunity to define real time and deterministic edge-based solutions where the cloud meets the real world in the heart of our fulfillment centers. The ideal candidate will enjoy working at multiple layers of the stack from edge compute solutions and cloud-based solutions to interface with and manage fleets of real-world devices.

Key job responsibilities

- Drive the adoption of best practices and emerging technologies within your team, promoting continuous improvement and innovation

- Work effectively with product managers, designers, QA testers, and other stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of features

- Clearly communicate technical choices and progress to both technical and non-technical audiences
