Amazon is an American technology and retail conglomerate founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994 as an online bookstore and headquartered in Seattle, Washington. It operates the world's largest online marketplace together with a global logistics network, physical grocery stores and a third-party seller platform that accounts for most units sold. Amazon Web Services, launched in 2006, is the leading public cloud provider and generates the majority of the group's operating profit, while advertising, Prime Video, Alexa devices and Kuiper satellite broadband round out the business.

Are you a budding programmer with a passion for technology and a drive to learn? Look no further. We're seeking a Software Development Engineer Apprentice to join our dynamic team and embark on an exciting journey of professional growth and skill development.

As a Software Development Engineer Apprentice, you'll work alongside seasoned software engineering experts, gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced, innovative environment. You'll contribute to the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge software solutions that drive our business forward. Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll be exposed to a variety of programming languages, frameworks, and methodologies, building a well-rounded skillset - from mastering the fundamentals of software engineering to exploring emerging technologies and pushing the boundaries of your abilities.

A day in the life can involve:

- Collaborating with teams across the business to design, implement, and optimise solutions

- Learning and applying best practices in software development

- Contributing to real-world projects that impact millions of customers globally

- Analysing and solving complex technical challenges

- Participating in code reviews and ensuring code quality

- Implementing software security measures and compliance

- Staying up to date with the latest development trends and emerging technologies

We welcome individuals from all backgrounds with a genuine passion for technology and a drive to learn. You'll bring strong problem-solving skills, a self-motivated approach to learning, and a keen eye for detail. The ability to work collaboratively is crucial, as is excellent communication, so you can contribute to a dynamic team and build strong working relationships. You'll also need adaptability and a growth mindset to navigate shifting priorities and embrace new technologies and methodologies as you go.

Here at Amazon, it's in our nature to learn and be curious. Within this apprenticeship, you'll learn by doing, putting newfound knowledge into practice every day. Our first-class coaching, tailored development opportunities, and challenging, rewarding work will empower you to reach new heights. If you're a curious, ambitious learner eager to grow, this is your chance to unlock your full potential and build the future you envision.

You'll gain a wide range of valuable experiences and skills while working towards the BSc in Applied Software Engineering. As a working student, your focus during your 20% off-the-job time is to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours that lead to successful graduation. You'll be set objectives and goals by your training provider and manager to support your studies.

Please note: as part of your off-the-job learning, you may be required to travel to a training centre, and this location may differ from your primary work base. Candidates should be prepared for occasional travel as part of the programme.

You'll build your skills over a 42-month period, starting in September, developing both personally and professionally. Your apprenticeship combines classroom and virtual training to cover the knowledge, on-the-job training at your Amazon base location, online learning, and mentoring from our experienced team members.

You'll join a diverse and passionate team that values different perspectives and experiences, and we're dedicated to creating an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. Our employee-led affinity groups - including communities for women in tech, LGBTQ+ employees, and underrepresented minorities - foster a culture of inclusion that empowers us to be proud of our differences. These groups provide community, mentorship, and a platform for your voice to be heard. We're committed to building a workforce that reflects the customers and communities we serve.

We're continuously raising our performance bar as we strive to become Earth's Best Employer. That's why you'll find endless knowledge-sharing, mentorship, and other career-advancing resources here to help you develop into a well-rounded professional.

Your career isn't a straight path - it's a journey you build as you go. A universe of opportunity awaits, and your next adventure starts here. If you've got this blend of technical curiosity, problem-solving ability, and a collaborative spirit, apply now and begin a journey that will propel your career forward in software development.
