Financial Controller

AMZ Prep | Finance Team

Reports to: Director of Finance & Strategy

About AMZ Prep

AMZ Prep is a fast-growing, technology-driven third-party logistics (3PL) and fulfillment company supporting brands across North America. We combine innovative technology, data and operational expertise to deliver scalable logistics solutions.

We operate with the speed and mindset of a technology company, where accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement are part of how we work.

Our Core Values

Win Relentlessly: We are driven to succeed, push for results and continuously look for better ways to deliver value to our customers.

Own the Outcome: We take responsibility from start to finish. We don't pass problems along; we take initiative, find solutions and follow through.

Be Humbly Confident: We bring knowledge and expertise to the table while remaining open to feedback, collaboration and continuous learning.

Obsess Over Data: We rely on facts, numbers and insights to make informed decisions, identify opportunities and drive improvements.

We are building a high-performance, customer-focused culture where responsiveness, ownership, accountability and proactive communication matter.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Financial Controller to take ownership of financial reporting, accounting operations, tax compliance, treasury and financial controls across our growing North American business.

This is a key leadership position within Finance, responsible for ensuring our financial records are accurate, compliant and available to support timely business decisions.

A major focus of this role will be transforming our traditional month-end close into a more automated, continuous close process, improving financial visibility and reducing manual work.

Reporting to the Director of Finance & Strategy, you will work closely with the Billing & Revenue Operations Manager and other teams to strengthen financial processes, support our US expansion and build a scalable finance function.

We're looking for someone who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves, challenges existing processes and takes full ownership of results.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Continuous Close

  • Own the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.

  • Lead the transition toward a continuous close model through automated daily reconciliations and weekly soft closes.

  • Prepare and review financial statements, general ledger accounts and supporting schedules.

  • Provide weekly financial updates and variance reporting for leadership and EOS Level 10 meetings.

  • Reconcile billing activity to the general ledger monthly, partnering with Billing & Revenue Operations.

  • Identify reporting discrepancies and implement improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency.

  • Work toward reducing month-end close timelines to fewer than five business days.

Tax, Compliance & Audit

  • Oversee HST, payroll, corporate income tax and other applicable statutory reporting requirements.

  • Ensure all tax filings, remittances and compliance deadlines are met accurately and on time.

  • Coordinate year-end financial reporting, external accountants and audit requirements.

  • Maintain accurate documentation supporting tax filings, grant claims and financial compliance.

  • Identify potential financial and regulatory risks and ensure appropriate controls are in place.

  • Support compliance requirements across Canadian and US operations.

US Entity Structure & Cross-Border Finance

  • Lead the financial and accounting components of AMZ Prep's US entity setup.

  • Coordinate with external tax, legal and accounting advisers to establish an appropriate cross-border structure.

  • Develop and maintain intercompany accounting processes and supporting documentation.

  • Support transfer pricing, cross-border tax planning and financial reporting requirements.

  • Ensure the US entity setup is completed according to established timelines and business objectives.

Accounts Payable, Treasury & Cash Management

  • Oversee accounts payable, vendor payments, bank reconciliations and treasury operations.

  • Manage financial processes and reconciliations across platforms including Ramp, BMO and Venn.

  • Monitor cash balances, foreign exchange activity and intercompany transactions.

  • Ensure accurate financial actuals are provided to support the rolling 13-week cash flow forecast.

  • Identify opportunities to improve payment controls, cash visibility and operational efficiency.

Financial Controls, Automation & Process Improvement

  • Design, implement and maintain strong internal financial controls embedded into daily workflows.

  • Identify manual processes that can be automated to improve accuracy, efficiency and scalability.

  • Increase the percentage of financial reconciliations completed automatically.

  • Develop clear accounting procedures, approval processes and financial reporting standards.

  • Establish and maintain a centralized repository of corporate, tax, compliance and financial records.

  • Partner with the Director of Finance & Strategy on financial projects, process improvements and business initiatives.

What We're Looking For

  • Significant experience in financial accounting, controllership or a senior accounting role.

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, financial reporting, reconciliations and internal controls.

  • Experience managing month-end and year-end close processes.

  • Solid understanding of Canadian corporate tax, HST, payroll compliance and audit requirements.

  • Experience with treasury operations, cash management and financial reporting.

  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills, including financial analysis and reporting.

  • Experience with accounting software, ERP systems and financial automation tools.

  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and meet critical deadlines.

  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving business where processes are continually being improved.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with US entities, cross-border accounting, intercompany transactions and transfer pricing.

  • Experience in logistics, fulfillment, transportation, warehousing or a 3PL environment.

  • Experience implementing continuous close processes or automating financial reconciliations.

  • Familiarity with Ramp, BMO, Venn or similar financial platforms.

  • Experience working in an EOS-driven organization.

  • Experience supporting growing, multi-entity businesses.

What Success Looks Like

We believe in clear accountability, measurable results and continuous improvement.

  • Month-End Close: Achieve a financial close within 10 business days by Q1 2027, progressing to fewer than 5 business days by the end of 2027.

  • Automation: Continuously increase the percentage of reconciliations completed automatically.

  • Reporting Accuracy: Reduce variances between weekly flash reporting and final monthly profit and loss statements.

  • Tax Compliance: Ensure 100% of HST, payroll and tax filings are completed on time, with zero penalties.

  • US Expansion: Complete the US entity setup according to plan, with a documented tax and intercompany structure.

  • Billing Accuracy: Ensure billing is fully reconciled to the general ledger each month.

  • Year-End Reporting: Deliver a clean year-end close with no material audit adjustments.

Why Join AMZ Prep?

This is an opportunity to play a significant role in building and strengthening the financial foundation of a growing North American logistics company.

You'll have the opportunity to improve financial systems, introduce automation, strengthen controls and support the company's continued expansion.

This isn't a role focused solely on maintaining existing processes. We're looking for someone who wants to challenge how things are done, introduce better ways of working and build a finance function that can scale with the business.

If you're a hands-on finance professional who thrives on ownership, accuracy, problem-solving and continuous improvement, we'd love to hear from you.
