As a Senior Lawyer in the Legal Group, you’ll play a key role in providing legal support to ANZ Pacific in delivering its strategy. You’ll work closely with a range of stakeholders to deliver change while advising on how to effectively manage legal risk and ensure there is appropriate governance.

This is an opportunity to work with a diverse range of stakeholders across ANZ Pacific, providing practical and commercially focused legal advice that supports the delivery of ANZ Pacific’s strategic goals.

Ka aha tō rā e kite ai? - What will your day look like

You’ll provide timely, practical legal advice and support to ANZ Pacific, with a particular focus on changes ANZ Pacific is making to its business. Partnering with colleagues across the business you’ll need to understand challenges, manage legal risk and help deliver effective outcomes. Being comfortable working in an environment where the law is not black and white and there are ambiguities in interpreting that law, is a key requirement for this role.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing high-quality, commercially focused legal advice and supporting a strong risk-aware culture across ANZ .
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with colleagues across ANZ Pacific, including Product and Risk and contributing to effective collaboration and outcomes.
  • Supporting the delivery of business outcomes through pragmatic, timely and cost-effective legal advice.
  • Working with internal and external legal resources to ensure legal support is delivered effectively and efficiently.

Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in the role, you will ideally bring the following:

  • A law degree (LLB) and a current New Zealand Law Society Practising Certificate.
  • At least five years’ post qualification experience from a top tier New Zealand or global firm in a common law jurisdiction, ideally with a focus on banking and finance or commercial law.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to provide practical, commercially focused legal advice at pace and influence outcomes effectively.
  • A curious and pragmatic problem-solving mindset, with the ability to make sound judgements.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.

You’re not expected to have 100% of these skills. At ANZ a growth mindset is at the heart of our culture, so if you have most of these things in your toolbox, we’d love to hear from you.
