Aristotle Space & Aeronautics Team (ASAT) is the aerospace student team of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece, where student members design, build and fly unmanned aircraft and rockets. Founded in November 2015 as the first aerospace student team of the university, it works through two technical departments, Aeronautics and Rocketry, alongside a marketing group, and has ranked among the top ten European student teams in both fields at international competitions. Its open member positions cover propulsion, avionics hardware and software, structures, aerodynamics, recovery systems, trajectory analysis, IT administration, graphic design and fundraising.

The Layout Management Engineer is in charge of getting the rocket back safely on the ground, usually with a set of two parachutes (or even a single one!) opened at different times so that the rocket can touch down safely. We are looking for someone to design, assemble and test the different lines linking parachutes and recovery mechanisms together, alongside calculating the necessary swivel and other links between the line and the rigid rocket parts.

Responsibilities:

  • Thorough research on recovery ejection systems of 1st and 2nd deployment events suitable for any mission.

  • Design the different lines, the cords between the parachutes and the rocket, for the parachute(s).

  • Avoid any issues with the tangle of the different cords of the parachutes.

  • Do all the calculations needed to choose the right hardware for linkages.

  • Design and test components that connect the whole recovery system.

  • Be part of the testing phase of the parachutes and the recovery mechanisms of the sub-system.

  • Apply what you designed by working hands-on on real-world problems.

  • Cooperate with the other members of the Recovery sub-system.

  • Cooperate with the rest of the sub-systems for the design and manufacturing of the Recovery systems.
