Purpose of Role
The purpose of the School Cleaner Role is to ensure that the school premises aremaintainedto a consistently high standard of cleanliness, hygiene, safety, and presentation. The roleis responsible forcleaning andmaintainingclassrooms, offices,common areas, restrooms, and other designated spaces to provide a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, parents, and visitors.The School Cleaner contributes to the effective operation of the school by following established cleaning procedures, health and safety standards, and safeguarding expectations. The role requires attention to detail, reliability, and a commitment tomaintaininghigh standardsof hygiene and cleanliness throughout the school environment.

KeyResponsibilities
Clean andmaintainclassrooms, offices, corridors, stairways,common areas, restrooms, and other designated school facilities.
Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, disinfect, and clean surfaces and fixtures asrequired.
Ensure restrooms are cleaned,sanitized, and adequately stocked with soap, toilet paper, paper towels, and other necessary supplies.
Empty waste bins and dispose of rubbishin accordance withschool procedures and applicable health and safety requirements.
Clean windows, doors, furniture, fixtures, and other surfaces asrequired.
Respond promptly to spills, accidents, or other situations requiring immediate cleaning or attention.
Maintain cleaning equipment and ensure it is used, stored, and handled appropriately.
Use cleaning products and chemicals safely andin accordance withmanufacturer instructions and school procedures.
Report damaged equipment, maintenance issues, hazards, leaks, or other concerns to theappropriate person.
Assistin preparing facilities for school events, activities, meetings, and other special occasions whenrequired.
Support the maintenance of a clean and orderly environment in outdoor and indoorareasassigned.
Follow established schedules, cleaning routines, and instructions provided by the line manager.
Respect the privacy and confidentiality of students, staff, and families when working in classrooms, offices, and other areas of the school.
Follow all school policies and procedures relating to health and safety, safeguarding, security, and professional conduct.
Takeappropriate precautionswhen working in areas occupied by students and staff.
Report any safeguarding concerns, accidents, incidents, or unusual situations to theappropriate memberof staffin accordance withschool procedures.
Work cooperatively with other members of the Facilities and Operations team.
Perform other reasonable duties related to therole asrequired by the line manager.

Good interpersonal skills and a respectful, professional attitude towards students, staff, parents, and visitors.
Ability tomaintainconfidentiality and professional boundaries within a school environment.
Physical ability to perform the duties associated with the role, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and moving cleaning equipment and supplies.
Qualifications:
Basic education or equivalent qualifications.
Basic knowledge of workplace health and safety practices.
Experience:
Previousexperience in cleaning, housekeeping, janitorial services, facilities support, or a similar role(typically 1-2 years minimum).
Experience using cleaning equipment and products safely and effectively.
Experience following cleaning schedules, procedures, and health and safety requirements.
Experience working independently and managing routine tasks with minimal supervision.
