Job Description

Position: Science Lab Assistant

Purpose of Role

To support Science teachers in the effective and safe operation of the laboratory, ensuring that practical lessons are well prepared and students have access to the required equipment, materials, and resources in accordance with Cambridge curriculum requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

·Prepare laboratories, equipment, apparatus, chemicals, and materials required for practical Science lessons.

·Assist Science teachers during practical classes, experiments, demonstrations, and project work.

·Ensure all laboratory equipment and resources are properly maintained, stored, labelled, and readily available.

·Maintain accurate records of laboratory equipment, chemicals, consumables, stock, and inventory.

·Follow and ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures, risk assessments, and school safeguarding requirements.

·Monitor the safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and laboratory materials in accordance with established procedures.

·Clean and organize laboratory work areas and ensure equipment is clean, functional, and ready for use.

·Report damaged, faulty, missing, or expired equipment and materials to the Science Coordinator or concerned teacher.

·Support students and teachers during practical activities while promoting safe and responsible laboratory practices.

·Assist with Science exhibitions, projects, practical assessments, Cambridge laboratory activities, and other departmental requirements as assigned by the Science Coordinator or School Management.
