Job Description

Overview

The payroll team provides a key role in providing accurate, timely, and compliant payroll services whilst supporting the business, line managers, and employees with a consistently high standard of customer service. The team also drives continuous improvement by reviewing systems, processes and controls, and supporting payroll projects, system enhancements, and legislative changes. Working closely with the People Hub in Bangalore and wider HR teams, the Payroll Advisor will deliver an efficient payroll service to managers and employees.

Alongside Business-as-Usual operations, the role will support payroll projects, system enhancements, User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and process improvements, helping to test, document and embed change. An initial focus will be implementing Payrolling of Benefits ahead of legislative changes. Relevant experience in Payrolling of Benefits, Benefits in Kind or employee benefit taxation is advantageous, but training will be provided. The role will support testing, process development, documentation and transition into Business as Usual.

Your role

  • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of payroll data throughout the employee lifecycle, maintaining data integrity across payroll and associated systems.
  • Process and reconcile variable payments and deductions, including data interfaced between the Company’s Timesheet System and Payroll, investigating and resolving any discrepancies.
  • Complete manual payroll calculations where required, including overpayments, net-to-gross calculations, statutory absence-related pension contributions and other complex payroll adjustments.
  • Complete all pre-payroll, payroll processing and post-payroll activities accurately, compliantly and within agreed deadlines, including BACS payments and salary advances.
  • Support the accurate and compliant transition of employees transferring under TUPE, both into and out of the payroll, ensuring required payroll information is provided and processed appropriately.
  • Support internal and external audit requirements, maintaining appropriate payroll records, controls and supporting documentation.
  • Provide payroll guidance and support to the Contact Management Team, HR Services, HR Business Partners and Subject Matter Experts, helping to resolve payroll-related queries and cases effectively.
  • Support payroll system developments and change initiatives, undertaking User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and contributing to legislative changes, system enhancements and programmes such as Payrolling of Benefits.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of payroll processes and service delivery, identifying opportunities to streamline activities, strengthen controls and improve the employee experience.
  • Maintain accurate payroll process documentation and case records, including the use of ServiceNow Pro, while keeping up to date with payroll legislation, industry developments and changes affecting payroll operations.

About you

  • A recognised payroll qualification is preferred, although equivalent knowledge and expertise gained through practical payroll experience will also be considered.
  • Hands-on experience of UK payroll processing, preferably within a large, complex in-house or shared service payroll environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK payroll legislation, statutory requirements and compliance, with the ability to apply this knowledge to resolve complex payroll matters.
  • Good knowledge and experience of payroll systems, with Oracle experience desirable, together with strong Microsoft Office skills including advanced Excel.
  • Experience of employee benefits and salary sacrifice arrangements, including Flexible Benefits, Payrolling of Benefits and/or Benefits in Kind, with an understanding of the associated UK tax implications.
  • Experience supporting payroll system testing and change, including User Acceptance Testing (UAT), system enhancements, legislative changes, implementations and process improvements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify, assess and appropriately escalate payroll risks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong customer focus and the ability to build effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • A proactive approach, with the ability to take ownership of tasks and see them through to completion, while managing competing priorities in a changing environment.
  • A high level of professionalism, discretion and integrity, with the resilience and adaptability required to work effectively with confidential and sensitive employee and payroll information.
